February is Ferrari Time in Naples! FEBRUARY 2020

A Time for Cars and Caring

A word from Vann Ellison, President & CEO

On February 8, Ferrari fans from all over the country will gather for the Cars on 5th show. Most come to look, some to buy. But all of them will support St. Matthew’s House through their admission fee. Many will give well above and beyond that, as they have done year after year.

Naples, of course, is a very prosperous community. My experience has shown me it is also deeply generous, especially when it comes to St. Matthew’s House. I have met many compassionate people who care about our neighbors who are experiencing homelessness, hunger and addiction.

Not just during showcase events like Cars on 5th, but all year long, you show that you take the concept of Christian stewardship very much to heart.

I’m often reminded of the verse in Luke 12:

From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.

All of us at St. Matthew’s House are tremendously grateful for each donation given, every volunteer hour spent and every prayer offered. God bless you for hearing and responding to His Word!

Did You Know?

  • $400,000 was raised at last year’s Cars on 5th show. All of these funds went directly to programs and services at St. Matthew’s House.
  • More than 575 different autos were displayed.
  • The total price of cars on display was $600 million.
  • More than 20,000 people attended the event.
  • Over 300 St. Matthew’s House volunteers helped with the event.

Cars on 5th: Great Cars, Great Cause

Three days after starting his new position as Development Operations Manager at St. Matthew’s House, Nick Porter joined in on our biggest event of the year: Cars on 5th. He paid close attention to every detail, knowing he would oversee the event in 2020.

“The event has grown so much,” Nick says. It began 16 years ago as a car show for the Ferrari Club of Naples which chose charities to receive the proceeds. For the past five years, they have chosen St. Matthew’s House — a real blessing, as the proceeds from last year’s event alone exceeded $400,000!

Nick tells us people come from all over the country to attend the one-day event. “It’s a hot ticket, a great family day,” he says. It also brings out the generosity of the community. “Last year, we were asking $20 for admission and people said, ‘No, you need more than that … here’s $100, $200.’ It floored me! On top of that, I saw people coming out and volunteering and asking more about our mission.”

That’s exactly what Tom O’Riordan, President of the Ferrari Club, had in mind. “The show was always about raising money for charities,” Tom says. “St. Matthew’s House touches a lot of people here in Collier County. They’re really remarkable.” Tom recalls two recent instances where graduates from Justin’s Place approached him and thanked him for raising money for the program. “They told me St. Matthew’s House saved their lives.”

Dennis Flint, the Ferrari Club’s Vice President, had lived in Naples for 20 years and didn’t know much about St. Matthew’s House until he attended a fundraising dinner. In a similar way, he says, “Cars on 5th creates awareness that St. Matthew’s House helps people with addictions to regain their place in society. They use the donations exclusively to heal people’s lives. They’re very effective.”

This year’s show, on February 8, will feature more than 575 rare and exotic cars. There will be plenty of Ferraris, as well as Lamborghinis, McLarens, Corvettes and many other sporty models. Visit our website for more information.
