Parent Tips & Tricks for Distance Learning
Thanks to all of our families that have worked hard getting their students signed on to a computer and on Schoology and Zoom every day. We appreciate your support at home and understand that it is not easy! Check out this helpful article that has some tips and tricks for parents to use for distance learning:
Calling all Veterans!
Serene Lake Staff would like to create a tribute of our veterans for our students and families to view. We usually honor Veterans Day with a school-wide assembly and invite veterans to attend so we can say thank you for their service. In years past, it has been a special time for students to come up and stand next to their friend or relative as they are recognized. This year we have an opportunity to honor those near AND far.
Please click the link below to fill out the information provided and email a photo of your veteran – it can be a photo in uniform during service or simply a photo with family members at home. The information will accompany the photo in the tribute. If your child would like to draw a picture thanking our veterans, we can include that as well.
SERENE LAKE "DISTANCE" NUTRITION PROGRAM
"Grab and Go" 7 day meal bags, available to pick up for any child under 18 on Tuesdays 11am - 2pm or Thursdays 2pm - 5pm. On 8/31/20, the USDA extended the waiver to continue SFSP program through December 2020, which allows any child under 18 to have access to meals for free.
Attendance is taken everyday!
Attendance is taken based on student's participation in Schoology. Work does NOT have to be done during scheduled class time, it can be done anytime of the day. However, if you do not show engagement by logging into your teachers Schoology, attending the Zoom meeting or working independently on assignments provided by your teacher, you will be marked absent.
When students have unexcused absences, their families will receive a daily robocall at 6:00pm. However, students can reverse this absence by logging into Schoology and completing work after receiving the call. If student does not correct the absence by logging in that evening, absence will stay marked as unexcused.
Please call 425.366.3500 or email our attendance clerk to report an absence.

You can also log in as a guardian in the student info tile or in settings. The district sent out log in info last Friday, September 18th to all families, so check you email for your username and password.
Look for the Specialist Zoom links in your child's library course tile under "Specialist Zoom."
EVERY WEEKDAY, YOUR STUDENT SHOULD LOG ON TO SCHOOLOGY!
Families can watch short videos on topics such as joining a Zoom meeting on Family Orientation Videos Web Page. Currently, the videos are available in English and Spanish, with more languages and more videos to come later this week.
HOW TO EMAIL A TEACHER
With distance learning, there is a greater chance that your student will need to email his/her teachers. While parents may have this skill down, it is important to teach our students how to successfully send an email to a teacher.
Students can email within Schoology message icon at top of screen . If you want to email outside of the Schoology site, staff emails are the person's last name and first two initials followed by @mukilteo.wednet.edu. (Easiest way to get staff email address is using the new District App and clicking on "Staff Directory"--directions posted above.)
