Monthly STEAM classes for ages 2-12 LEARN. EXPERIMENT. EXPLORE. PLAY

CREATE KIDS was developed for the budding Artist, the Mathematician, little Engineer and junior Scientist. Our monthly classes teach curious young minds about the world around them through STEAM.

What is STEAM? STEAM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math. It is an integrated approach to learning that encourages students to think more broadly about real-world problems. Each subject or pillar is part of the greater whole of the lesson plan. So instead of teaching art as separate from technology or science, the concepts work together. Creating an interdisciplinary approach to instruction that resembles knowledge use in real life.

The greatest gift we can give students during the early years is a driving curiosity, a belief in their abilities, a thirst for knowledge, and a passion to grow. With these skills in their toolbox, they will be equipped to tackle the challenges of higher education and the real world, no matter where their life journey takes them. STEAM is a wonderful approach to education that nurtures creativity and problem solving during projects. It encourages critical thinking, inquiry based learning, and forging new paths through learning. It’s hands-on and often has ambiguous goals. The main goal simply being to embrace the process of learning and discovery.

The results are often ambiguous, why? In my opinion, if you are doing STEAM projects and everyone’s project looks exactly the same when you are done, then you’re doing it wrong. From our earliest days, we are taught to fit in the mould, to create projects that look exactly like the creations of everyone else in our class. STEAM goes against this trend and encourages students to become individuals and utilise their strengths. To work in teams and use the strengths of each individual to further the goals of the team. Collaboration is celebrated in STEAM, because together we can do really great things.

How can your child benefit from our program?

We are a first in South Africa and what makes our classes unique, is that we have combined five streams of learning into one fun, engaging activity

  • STEAM is creative and adaptable, making it accessible to children of all levels of ability. Even within one team, various ability levels can work together and learn together.
  • The teaching methods are inquiry-based, process-focused, and student-centered.
  • Lessons incorporate interest led investigations that provide students with ownership over their learning.
  • Teamwork, collaboration and communication is a major focus.
  • Students have the freedom to thinking critically, creatively and to be innovative.
  • Opportunities are provided for students to fail and try again in a safe environment.
  • The value of failure as a learning opportunity is emphasized and mistakes are embraced not penalized.
  • STEAM embraces the 4 C’s identified as key 21st century skills – Creativity, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, and Communication.

STEAM lessons are an excellent way of reducing classroom anxiety and stress. Once you understand STEAM programs, how they work, and have seen the benefits they provide, it is easy to see why all children can benefit from a STEAM program in the early years.

Not a fan of the mess? Messy play is extremely important for a child's development. It provides children with an exciting tactile and sensory experience that inspires their curiosity, allows them to explore the world around them and enhances their learning, language and creativity. Best part? We do all the cleaning up for you!

We are proud to host our classes at some of Gauteng's most sought after play venues. We also offer classes to schools and in the comfort of your own home.
