Parents & Volunteers Margarita Garcia - ELPT, EL Coach, Parent Volunteer, BAC, & Bilingual Teacher

  • As the Lorca Elementary School (ES) English Language Program Teacher (ELPT) I assess all new students with an English screener to determine program placement.
  • Lorca ES has General Education Program and state-mandated Bilingual Education Program. The state-mandated bilingual program has two different placements - Transitional Bilingual Education (TBE) program which educates students in the primary grades in their first language - Spanish and English-as-a-Second Language (ESL). The Transitional Program of Instruction (TPI) educates student's in English. The TPI program are for students who speak other languages, i.e., Arabic, French, Polish, and so on.
  • The ELPT collaborates with Prekindergarten through eighth grade teachers on Best Practices in Bilingual Education.
EL Coach

As Lorca's English language Coach (EL Coach) I provide classroom assistance to teachers to implement high quality instruction for the purposes of developing the EL students' ability to achieve academically.

Chicago Public Schools Office of FAMILY AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT in EDUCATION (FACE2) welcomes interested parents/guardians to complete an online application. After passing the background check the interested volunteers are approved to participate at CPS.

  • The Bilingual Advisory Committee (BAC) is recognized as a standing committee of the Local School Council (LSC). The BAC reports to the LSC regarding bilingual education issues, updates, and concerns in the school.

I have been a General Education, Spanish bilingual teacher, math, reading, and social studies teacher for decades. I taught middle-school reading and social studies to sixth-graders for ten years. Currently I work with the school administrators, teachers, parents, and as a Spanish and/or English reading Intervention teacher. My passion is learning, and as a life long learner - I Teach!
