SUPERINTENDENT'S CORNER

Dear Dollarway Family,

January 1st marked the beginning of a new year, and with it comes new opportunities and possibilities. Tradition holds that at this time of the year, we make New Year’s Resolutions. I would like to challenge all of us to develop resolutions designed to not only make ourselves better, but also those around us. We are striving to provide the best care and quality education for our students and we appreciate your continual support. There are a number of opportunies this month for you to help support your student and our district. Please pay close attention to our Events Calendar and Academic Calendar for ways you can become involved and other important events, dates, etc. Remember, we can’t do it without you...In closing, towards the end of this newsletter in the Parent & Family Engagement section, take a moment to view a short video and listen to students give feedback on books they have read. PATH TO A DREAM

Jayden Howard a 1st grade student at James Matthews Elementary in the Dollarway School District had an opportunity to experience the life of a fire fighter during a routine school inspection. Jayden aspires to be a firefighter someday. He was ecstatic to shake the hands of the firemen, take pictures, and sit in the driver’s seat of the fire engine.

James Matthews wants to thank Engineer Matthew Inman, Lieutenant Michael Burnett and Firefighter Anthony Lusk for the deposits made into Jayden Howard’s life. This effort alignswith the mission of the Dollarway School District to Collaborate, Educate, and Graduate the Whole Child.

WE SEE YOU JAYDEN!!!

A number of students from Robert Morehead Middle School participated in the annual Rotary Club kickoff of the local Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration last Tuesday, at the Pine Bluff Country Club. Coach Jones and his EAST students participate in community engagement to assist local business with designing a t-shirt. Part of the expecation of EAST students is to generate ideas for a project which helps the community or school to advance. Students use brainstorming and technology to develop their ideas. Great job & a BIG SHOUT OUT to Uncle Wilks for partnering with RMMS and their EAST efforts!!!

PRE-SESSION: TOWN HALL MEETING

State Representative Vivian Flowers recently hosted a pre-session Town Hall meeting at Dollarway High School. She met with seniors and discussed what their concerns and ideas are for the community and city. According to Representative Flowers' social media post, “They (the students) eagerly shared their ideas and concerns about the city’s infrastructure, developing Lake Saracen, and creating activities in the area…I met with all the seniors and they were awesome. Anyone who believes that young people don’t know or care about what’s going on is sadly mistaken.”

DOLLARWAY STUDENTS & STAFF GIVE BACK

DOLLARWAY STUDENTS AND STAFF ASSIST SALVATION ARMY

The Salvation Army bell ringing season starts each November and runs through Christmas Eve, when the red kettles are packed away for the season. Volunteers are the difference between an empty kettle and one that raises about $30 per hour – enough to provide a family with two bags of groceries, or shelter an individual for a night. Thanks to Super 1 on Dollarway Rd and all of students and staff that participated in helping to give back to our community.
Do you have a date for Valentine’s day? Yes, February 14th.
