Frontier Charter School Families and Friends,

This is Dr. Deena Bishop, your ASD Superintendent. I want to take a moment to congratulate and celebrate the graduating class of 2020. Each of you have shown tremendous determination, strength and resiliency as you graduate from high school and transition into the next phase of your life. I have no doubt that you will have bright futures ahead of you. Our entire community is so impressed with your perseverance and positive attitude during these difficult times.

Wherever life takes you, remember that you always have a home at ASD. We are so proud of everything you’ve accomplished.

Grad Spotlight

Aunika Alch

Aunika is graduating Magna Cum Laude.

The scholarships Aunika has been awarded to date are: The Summer of Heroes, an academic and community service scholarship, APS Scholarship.

Aunika will be attending Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington.

Aunika received the Youth Summit Award, Summer of Heroes – She created her own branch of nonprofit #HashtagLunchbagANC at the age of 14.

Sage Beaudoin-Mize

Sage is graduating Cum Laude.

The scholarships Sage has been awarded to date are: APS Scholarship.

Sage is pursuing a degree in Architecture. Sage will also help his parents run their rafting business.

Sage is a NOLS Wilderness First Responder, guide at the Matanuska Glacier, assists with rafting the Aniakchack River, and volunteers for the Girdwood Fine Arts Camp.

Elias Darrell

Elias is graduating Magna Cum Laude.

The scholarships Elias has been awarded to date are: UA Scholar, $1,000 from UAA School of Engineering, APS Scholarship.

Elias will be attending the University of Alaska, Anchorage pursuing a degree in engineering.

Elias has earned 9 college credits. He has been active in his church, taking a leadership role both in the youth group and in other small groups for young men. He has also taken on significant roles in the summer camp including cabin leader.

Max Embree

Max is graduating Summa Cum Laude.

The scholarships Max has been awarded to date are: UA Scholar, APS Scholarship, Taylor Community Scholarships, Holbrook Family Scholarship, Korean Scholarship.

Max will be attending Taylor University to pursue an engineering degree then continue in his desired field earning a master’s degree in chemical engineering.

Max has earned 2.5 college credits, the Seal of Biliteracy in Japanese – winning first place in conversational Japanese at state competition, served on the Anchorage Youth Court as vice-president, judge, and attorney, lettered in cross country running earning most improved and most inspirational, volunteers at Clear Water Church for audio-visual technical support plus assists with watching children.

Alani Makiheli

The scholarships Alani has been awarded to date are: 5 full-ride college Division 1 football team scholarships.

Alani will be attending University of Nevada, Las Vegas where he will be playing football and pursuing a degree in criminal justice.

Alani served as football captain at West High School, Cook Inlet Conference-Football 1st team, Cook Inlet Conference Lineman of the Year, All-State Football 1st team, All-State Football Lineman of the Year, Shriners Lineman of the Year, 5 full-ride football scholarship offers to division 1 football programs, member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes, member of Anchorage Young Life, member of Change Point Youth Group, volunteered for Children's Ministry at Change Point for 6 years, volunteer with various nonprofits (Downtown Hope Center, CPC, Thanksgiving Blessing, APD Coat Drive), volunteer at Tim Tebow Night to Shine, Special Needs Prom for 5 years.

Kamela Wright

Kamela is graduating Summa Cum Laude.

The scholarships Kamela has been awarded to date are: APS Scholarship, APU Scholarship, “2020 Early Honors Award of Excellence” from Alaska Pacific University.

Kamela will be attending Alaska Pacific University. She is pursuing a bachelor degree in preparation for medical school to become a Doctor of Oncology.

Kamela has earned 34 college credits. She was a volunteer aide, for many years, to special education students in ASD. Kamela traveled to New York by herself and stayed three weeks to get her guide dog.
