Theme: Words are the true power
Quote: "Blood leaked from her nose and licked at her lips. Her eyes had blackened. Cuts had opened up and a series of wounds were rising to the surface of her skin. All from words. From Liesel's words." (p. 253)
The quote is Deaths narration when liesel gets really mad at Ilsa Hermann. She later regrets it, and realizes that her words have more power, or affect on people than she thought. Throughout the book, words play a big role, especially for the time period. I think that if it hadn't been for the power of words Hitler wouldn't have come to power. He made so many people believe that killing an entire race of people was the right thing to do. Words have a power that no one can really entirely understand.
Real world example: Donald trump and the 2016 election
Explanation of example: President Trump is very good with his words. Hes had out of the box ideas, and his whole life he has been able to convince people that his ideas are beneficial. Just like in the book, things that Trump has said have been pleasing to the ear for some, but very controversial. He was able to use his words to win the presidency, just like Hitler used his to come to power, and how Liesel used hers through out, and all the power that's in the books she stole and read.
