Bond University Queensland Country defeat Melbourne Rising

Bond University Queensland Country claimed a 54-12 win over Melbourne Rising on a sunny Saturday afternoon on the Gold Coast in Round 5 of the National Rugby Championship.

Country outscored their opponents eight tries to two and currently sit on top of the NRC ladder.

“The whole team stood up and performed today. They were tested throughout the match but stood up to the challenge. They managed to hold the Rising out with only 13-men on field, which says a lot about the culture within the side and their attitude in defence." - Head Coach Brad Thorn

16MIN: Chris Feauai-Sautia scores the first try of the match after an offload from Liam Wright who fell just short. Tuttle adds the conversion. Country lead 7-0.

35MIN: Daugunu scores Country's second after Feauai-Sautia got a turnover and popped the ball up to his winger. Tuttle kicks the conversion and Country lead 14-0.

Second half - scoring plays

48MIN: Tupou scores Country's third try with a crash ball from short range. Tuttle adds the conversion and Country lead 21-0.

52MIN: TRY TIME Stewart. Nice run and overhead pass from Timu to his flyhalf to score. Tuttle kicks his fourth conversion and Country lead 28-0.

60MIN: Rising hit back with their first try of the match. Reserve hooker Mapusua scoring off the back of a rolling maul. Conversion unsuccessful and Country lead 28-5.

64MIN: Country skipper Paia'aua crashes and steps his way over the try line to score his side's fifth try. Stewart kicks the conversion and Country lead 35-5.

72MIN: TRY TIME Tela! Ford forced a turnover and got an offload away to Tela who ran away to score. Country lead 40-5.

74MIN: TRY TIME Daugunu! Lovely try with Stewart kicking ahead to his winger to grab his second. The winger converts his own try. Country lead 47-5.

79MIN: Daugunu is in again, scoring his hat trick try after an offload from Ford. The winger converts his own try and Country lead 54-5.

80+MIN: Havea scores a consolation try for Rising. McGregor adds the conversion. Country claim it 54-12.
