Knightly News 11/2/2018 Edition

Welcome to another edition of the Knightly News. This week was a short, but power packed week. We reveled in spirit week, we saw our 7th grade girls basketball take the championship, we celebrated Halloween with costumes and a dance, and we engaged in many wonderful academic experiences. The picture above is from Mr. Nayak's science class. In the picture above Varun Sukhavasi is collecting water samples from the stream behind our football field. Students tested a variety of characteristics of the water including temperature, ph, and turbidity to determine the health of the river and make predictions based on their research.

Big thanks to our PTO for your support in providing an awesome Halloween Dance for our students.

Also, Big thanks to Gareth Eve, our student groups, DJ Kerry (K-Breezy) Brennan, and all of our teachers for their support during the preparations and during the dance.

Halloween was Amazing!

Smith Middle School Quiz Bowl Club

What is Quiz Bowl? Quiz Bowl is a fast-paced trivia competition in which teams of four players compete to answer questions that cover academic subjects like literature and science as well as popular culture and current events.

Quiz Bowl at Smith MS: All Smith students are invited to take an entrance exam to join the SMS QB Club. Joining the QB Club requires a payment of $50 through PaySchool. During our meetings, students will work in teams and engage in simulated matches. We will study, strategize and have a blast! There are two Saturday competitions (from roughly 8:30-4:30) in which a Team A and Team B from SMS will attend. Parents/Guardians are responsible for transportation and meals on these competition Saturdays.

Quiz Bowl Coach: My name is Ms. Cova and I am delighted to be the SMS QB coach for the 2018-2019 school year. Last year with the help of Ms. Patel, our team won the State Championship and went on to compete in the National Championship outside of Chicago, Illinois. I am looking forward to another wonderful year with these wonderful Quiz Bowl Kids. Please feel free to email me at lcova@troy.k12.mi.us with any questions or concerns.

Last Entrance Exam for Quiz Bowl is November 8th from 3:10 to 4:10. Below is the Quiz Bowl calendar for 2018-2019.

Please remember that in order to try out, you need to have a completed physical on file. You may also bring your physical to tryouts on the first day. If you want to hand in your physical earlier, please see Mr. Losey for 7th grade and Mr. Koneval for 8th grade information.
