Massimo Vignelli was born on January 10, 1931 in Milan Italy. He studied at the Polytechnic University of Milan and at the Università Iuav di Venezia.

He designed the signage for the New York City subway system.

Massimo Vignelli was given 22 awards and honorary doctorates throughout his lifetime for his work.. He passed away on May 27, 2014.
