Hello Falcon Families!

I hope that everyone has enjoyed their weekends and is enjoying summer!

Important District Information

JPEC Students Demonstrating Falcon Pride!

Relay for Life

A huge THANK YOU! to our Falcon leaders, Families, and to our Cross Country team! We had a great turnout and support at Relay for Life this past Friday/Saturday. Special thanks to our young Falcon leader Madelyn Schmidt and our Kindness Committee; our Cross Country runners and coach Mr. Llerena; our young Falcon artists Myla Speidel for her face painting, Laksha Ahuja and Abby Schmidt for creating henna designs, and Gabe Anderson for photography. Thank you to Ms. Stacy Guthrie for helping to facilitate such an amazing student driven initiative, and to our staff and students who came out to support. Our Falcons were awarded "Rookie of the Year" for their hard work! An incredible accomplishment for a student driven initiative and our first Relay for Life team!

JPEC | District Calendar for AY 2018-2019

Please see our 2018-2019 AY calendar below! We have fully aligned our College Prep and Early College calendars for next year, and we have provided a stronger balance with instructional time and time off for our students and staff. We will provide our students with between 170 to 200 additional instructional hours for our upcoming academic year!

Cyber Security Summer Camp Opportunity

CyberPatriot Camp brings middle and high school students -- both novice and advanced -- together for a week of hands-on learning. Campers will explore the fundamental principles of cybersecurity, cyber ethics and online safety. They will investigate and assess the vulnerabilities of computers, networks and operating systems. They will explore basic security policies and tools, monitoring, account management, cyber threats and much more. Participants will prepare for an Air Force Association Youth Cyber Defense Competition coming later in the year.

Staffing and Program Update

As we prepare for the 2018-2019 year, we have reviewed our student performance data, our strategic plan, and discussed programmatic steps towards achieving our goals. Part of this process has been recognizing the necessary work that must happen with our mathematics program, and a stronger integration of skills allowing students to explore areas of interest and apply learning in real and relevant ways.

With these changes we will be moving to Illustrative Mathematics for our early fundamental math in College Prep and rewriting our curriculum for Algebra I and above allowing for stronger alignment with PSAT/SAT and college readiness. We will also be increasing our College Prep students' overall time weekly in mathematics instruction, as well as providing integrated blocks of STEM and Humanities in both our College Prep and Early College. These integrated blocks will give students great opportunity to explore areas of interest, strengths, and real-world application of skills.

Along with these program changes, we are also saying goodbye to Mrs. Melissa Comstock. We are very sorry to see her go, and we are incredibly grateful for her service and impact on students. Please see a farewell letter from Mrs. Comstock below.

"Falcon Families,

It has been my absolute pleasure to get to know you over the last four years. Unfortunately, I will not be returning to teach at JPEC in the fall. As JPEC continues to develop the college prep program to best meet the needs of students, changes are inevitable. The changes to the CP Year 1 program mean that my previous position is no longer necessary. I believe and trust that the administration did not make this difficult decision lightly, and I respect the choice they have made. I have so many wonderful memories from my time at JPEC, and I feel privileged to have worked with such an awesome group of students, families, and staff. Although I am not continuing as a teacher, I will remain part of the Falcon Family as a parent. I look forward to volunteering at student events and attending sporting events to cheer on the Falcons!

Sincerely,"

Melissa Comstock

Miss Melissa Shaw - Taking on Assistant Athletic Director Position

We are very excited to have Miss Melissa Shaw take on the additional role of Assistant Athletic Director and the potential this provides our athletic programs. Please see a brief bio on Miss Shaw below.

Melissa Shaw has completed her 6th year of teaching and her 2nd year of teaching PE and Health at JPEC. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Albion College where she played Varsity Basketball and Softball for the Britons. She taught for four years in Portland where she coached Cross Country, Basketball and Softball. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her nephews, family, friends, and being on the lake. She returned back home to Jackson for the opportunity to teach at JPEC and to coach Collegiate Basketball at Albion College. She is proud to be back in her hometown, a special place where great things are happening!

We are eager to see the energy and support she will bring to our athletic programs, and her collaboration with Mr. Serafin Llerena!
