honor native lands

Before we begin, we invite you to take a moment to reflect on and acknowledge the Indigenous roots of the land that you’re on. The land that the University of Maryland and The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center resides on today is home to the Piscataway tribe. We encourage you to use a resource like native-land.ca to learn more. Read about land acknowledgements from the U.S. Department of Arts and Culture.

Mike Hauser

After participating on American Idol and opening for the likes of 2 Chainz, Drake Bell, and Vacationer, Mike Hauser has made a name for himself in the music industry. Lionel Richie himself told Hauser: “I hear a young Rod Stewart when I close my eyes.” David Saslow of Atlantic Records later listened to Memories on Polaroid, Mike’s debut EP, and called "So Down" and "Four Years" “quality singles.” Mike Hauser and his backing band are currently playing shows in the DC area, cultivating their local fan base before branching out to other areas of the globe.

Kira Peck

Kira Peck is a sophomore Psychology & Theater double major and a current member of our student curator team for NextNOW Fest 2020. She is a community organizing intern with the Office of Multicultural Involvement & Community Advocacy (MICA) and the assistant Live Music Coordinator (and DJ) for UMD's freeform radio station WMUC-FM Radio. In her free time, she writes music, dabbles in costume design, concert photography and makes films with her friends. Kira loves art in all of its forms and is thrilled to work on something that is so all-encompassing and inclusive.

let's be friends!

NextNOW SummerFest is a midsummer interlude of artistic and creative virtual experiences that evoke memories of summers past. Presented by NextNOW Fest at The Clarice, NextNOW SummerFest continues to celebrate imagination, creativity and community -- in a virtual setting.

As we continue to practice physical distancing and other precautions due to COVID-19, we’re missing the usual arts gatherings that we would have experienced over the summer. We’re also testing out a few event ideas and virtual platforms in preparation for a virtual NextNOW Fest 2020 in September. We hope you will join us for a week of creativity and community, and thank you in advance for your patience and feedback!
