Action Research Project

Beyond the Four Walls: Creating a Blended Classroom with Technology - Full Sail University, Winter Park, FL

While teaching for ITT Technical Institute in 2010, I was faced with the growing need for innovative ideas for teaching design in the classroom. My design students were all eager to learn; however, our resources were limited. Therefore, I decided to use my Action Research Project for my Master Program to explore methods for improving learning outcomes, retention, and overall student engagement.

The course located below was created as an element used for my research during my Masters program. While teaching as ITT, my students did not have access to an LMS and limited access to academic technology. Therefore, I implemented the use of free technology into my classroom to conduct my research.

Faculty Development For eLearning

Participantion is often a challenge for Faculty Professional Development. Therefore, it is important to create elements that engage the attention and excitement of the faculty to encourage participation in the course, workshop, or training. Below is a sample video used to demonstrate a method of enhancing the anticipation for an upcoming course.

A Lesson On Color Theory

The following lesson is a Color Theory Worksheet. This worksheet is apart of the Color Theory Module design to develop the students skill and knowledge for mixing and recognizing colors. This worksheet was designed to walk students through the process of creating color mixtures using acrylic paints, however, it can also be completed digitally. During this hand's on lab, students were instructed to mix the paints to create colors and paint the color wheel following the directions on the worksheet. Once students have successfully completed the worksheet, they were assigned a final project requiring them to create an original color wheel incorporating the skills practiced during the lab.

The images above represent the Teachers Key for the Color Theory Worksheet

Adobe Kuler (Adobe Color CC)

This video was created to introduction students to Adobe Kuler (Now Adobe Color CC). After completing the hands on lab, during which the students mixed the colors by hand. We then began to use Adobe Color CC to explore digitally mixing colors to create color schemes to use in their design work.
