Thesis: In The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho's, Santiago, embarks on a quest to achieve his personal legend. In conclusion of the novel he obtained more than treasure. He obtained wisdom, patience, and many friendships. You can also see this in a song that is starred in a Disney movie, a movie of a legendary women warrior , and a quote from a holy book.

Wisdom is found in manly places in the book. An example of wisdom is found when Santiago is talking to the old king, Melchizedek, in the market of Tarifa.

Evidence 1: " ' Whats the worlds greatest lie?" the boy asked, completely surprised. " It's that at a certain point in our lives, we lose control of what's happening to us, and our lives become controlled by fate. That's the worlds greatest lie.' " ( Coehlo 20).

Commentary: Son of Man is written by Phil Collins. Many of his songs is viewed in Disney movies. For example, Tarzan, Brother Bear, and more. In his song, Son Of Man, there is wisdom showed in many of his lyrics.

Secondly, friendship's were made in The Alchemist. For example when Santiago is talking to the Alchemist when they are leaving the oasis and Fatima behind.

Evidence 2:" 'Don't think of what you have left behind, " the alchemist said to the boy as they began to ride across the sands of the desert. " If what one finds is made of pure matter, it will never spoil. And one can always come back.If what you had found was only a moment of light, like the explosion of a star, you would find nothing from your return,' " ( Coehlo 127).

Commentary: Mulan is a motion picture made by Disney that is based on a life of a young women who lives through friendship and perseverance to achieve her personal legend.

Mulan was a young Chinese woman with a normal life in China. Her father was called to war, but he was gravely injured in the last war. Mulan takes his place in the army in which she dresses as a man and fights along the army. In short terms she defeats the enemy. She obtains her personal legend at the end of the movie by being the first woman in 386-- 534 A.D era to show equality between men and woman and also obtained many friends along the way. She met her soon to be husband, her dragon friend, and her comrades in the war.

Thirdly, in the Alchemist, Santiago learns patience from many elders in his life time. For example when Santiago is working for the crystal merchant to earn more money to go to the Pyramids.

Evidence 3: " ' Because it is the thought of Mecca that keeps me alive... I'm afraid that if my dream is realized, I'll have no reason to go on living.' " ( Coehlo 57).

Commentary: James 5: 7 was written a long time ago by a famous man and has been revised in many ways.
