Taking Care of the Microscope

Carrying The Microscope

  • Always use two hands
  • Place one hand on the arm
  • The put the other hand under the base to keep from falling
  • Lift gently and carefully
  • When placing the scope down, do it like you were holding a baby

Storing The Microscope

  • Keep covered with the dust cover when storing
  • Place the microscope in cabinet when not in use

Cleaning The Microscope

  • Clean lens with tissue
  • A cotton swab can be used in the place of a tissue
  • Clean these parts...
  1. Eyepiece lens
  2. Objective lenses
  3. Glass condenser lens
  4. Stage opening

Use of the Microscope

Low Power

  • center - pointer
  • focus - coarse adjustment
  • light - diaphragm
  • tweak - fine focus

Medium Power

  • center - pointer
  • focus - coarse adjustment
  • light - diaphragm
  • tweak - fine focus

High Power

  • center - pointer
  • focus - coarse adjustment
  • light - diaphragm
  • tweak - fine focus

Making a Wet Mount

  • Clean the glass slide
  • Clean the glass cover slip
  • Then add an object with these requirements...
  1. Half the the side of your fingernail
  2. Thins so that you can see through the object
  • Add one drop of water
  • Add one drop of stain if needed
