Mother Teresa By: Spencer Pruden

Mother Teresa was born in 1910 in Skopje, Macedonia.

Mother Teresa's parents were Nikola and Dranafile, they were of Albanian descent. Her siblings were her brother Lazar and her sister Age. Her and her family were Catholic.

When Mother Teresa was 8 years old, her father died. After she and her mother grieved, they started back to helping the poor and the sick people of Skopje. When she was 12, she first realized that she wanted to be a missionary. She felt that God was telling her to serve the sick and the poor.

When Mother Teresa was 18, she joined the Loreto Order. After she joined, she went to the Loreto house in Calcutta, India. She started as a teacher at the Loreto House and realized that she wanted to help the poor and sick of Calcutta. She asked the Pope for permission to leave the Loreto House. The Pope granted her permission to leave the house and she started her mission work in Calcutta.

Mother Teresa bought a house in Calcutta and housed the sick and the dying. She established it to comfort them before they died. Her work eventually became global and she established the Missionaries of Charity. Missionaries of Charity is now in over 100 countries and helps about a 1 million people a year.

In 1979 Mother Teresa received the Nobel Peace Prize. Her work has surpassed the standards.

On September 5, 1997, Mother Teresa died in Calcutta. She left behind inspiration for many other missionaries and the Missionaries of Charity foundation.

A Bible verse that Mother Teresa liked was 1st Corinthians 13:4-13. Some of her quotes were: "If you judge people, you will not have time to love them." "God doesn't require us to succeed, only to try."
