The Laws Through Running Sophia Rubolino

According to Sir Isaac Newton, there are three Laws to Motion. Newton's First Law states that an object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. The Second Law states that acceleration is produced when a force acts on a mass. Lastly, the Third Law states that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.

Newton's First Law focuses on inertia. According to Merriam-Webster, inertia is defined as; "a property of matter by which it remains at rest or in uniform motion in the same straight line unless acted upon by some external force."

When a person is sitting, standing, or laying down, they will not move unless they decide to or an outside energy forces the person to move which demonstrates the First Law of Motion.

Newton's Second Law of Motion is expressed through amount of energy one exerts, which reflects how fast one will accelerate.

A dog, who's mass is small, but has a strong force, can accelerate up to high speeds compared to a human.

In order to determine the force of an object, one multiplies acceleration by mass (F=am). Force is often expressed through the equation, 1 Newton = 1 kg • m/s2.

To determine the momentum an object is going, one multiplies the mass by velocity (p=mv).

In Newton's Third Law of Motion, the ground acts in an equal and opposite force pushing up on your feet while your body pushes down on the ground.

The Third Law of Motion helps one's body to propel forward.
