Samuel P. Harn Musuem of Art Daniel Silva

Medium of the Art

The Harn Museum was able to capture and display so many art works and sculptures that I would not have seen otherwise. The African Art exhibit was one of the most interesting me personally. I found their way of life and culture displayed through art and sculptures. The multitude of colors that rang out from each and every piece of art was incredible. The feeling of respect and admiration flow through you as you peer through the exhibit. Being able to experience this first hand was beneficial in the sense that I wouldn’t have been granted the whole emotional experience over the internet.

Design of the Musuem

The design of the museum in particular truly amazed me. As you walk up the building you are greeted by a bridge with luscious plants and flowers around it. Once you walk in you feel the enormity in the room. My favorite architectural design in the museum is the Irvin J. Goffman Garden. The garden is located practically in the middle of an exhibit. It’s a beautiful sight to come across as you are enjoying the vast paintings that surround. There’s nothing more peaceful than seeing the Florida sunshine bust though and makes its own presence felt.

Art and Core Values

An art work that appears to my core values is the “Road Worker” by Diego Rivera. This painting is special to me because it reminds me of where I came from. My family is from the island of Cuba and it was a gigantic transition to come to the United States. Working hard and not looking back is what my family has always been about. Nothing is given to you in life, you must go out and work for it. This painting caught my eye and I couldn’t help but relate and feel humbled to be in the position I am today.

Art and the Good Life

One specific art work that displayed the good life to me was a painting by Sebastiao Salgado. The imaged portrayed three young girls in the inner city of Brazil. The reason this image resembles the good life in my opinion is because the good life is all about the people you spend it with. Friends and family is all you have in this world, and every moment spent with the people you love is a blessing. I am truly fortunate to be surrounded by individuals who would go the extra mile for me. To me this is what I perceive to me the good life.
