Our man in synod. DAY ONE.

with Andrew Yates.

Highlight of the opening sessions was Presidential Address by the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby.

Starting with a strong sense of Uncertainty in the world with post Brexit upheavals and anxieties over leadership change in USA. And also potentially contentious debate at General Synod later in week on same sex marriage.

The Archbishop said the only response was one of discipleship and prayer. The only genuine way of facing unknown was in kneeling at the feet of the crucified and risen Christ.

He recalled when as a canon at Coventry Cathedral he was about to set off on a mission of reconciliation in s corner of the world where the situation was best described as ' complicated '. He would reflect on the Grest Sutherland tapestry. At the bottom between the feet of Christ is a tiny human figure

Though looking vulnerable there is still a strong sense of safety and security from the surrounding feet of Christ.

Let this image inspire us to seek for security in the same place.
