Mission Updates September, 2021

Praise God for the faithful service of Nolan & Marie Schockey, CWC Missionaries in Juarez, Mexico! Meet them in the Life Center the weekend of September 4th and 5th!

Nolan and Marie lead Servant Senders, a ministry that is teaching 13 Mexican pastors and leaders through the Bible over the course of 3 years.

During their training time, each man also reaches out to his own neighborhood with a kids' club. 9 churches have been born as the children bring their parents to the club and the men begin holding Sunday services. Each man also begins or continues a ministry, usually to first responders in Juarez. Hundreds of police cadets are now trained in a mandatory ethics course taught by these disciples, and dozens of police and fire stations receive the men for weekly devotions and prayer. The team also reaches out to migrants at the border with the Gospel and practical ministry like food and water.

Please pray for continued wisdom in reaching out to the needs of the people of Juarez.

Also, please pray for the men to continue following God with their full hearts. Many come from drug and alcohol addicted backgrounds.

Don't forget to join us for a CD album release listening party for Kevin Jones' album "Simple As That" on September 3rd at 6pm! All profits and proceeds from the hard copy CD purchases will go to CWC Missions!

Several of our valued missionaries will be at the open house before and after the presentation, so please come at 6! Space is limited so sign up today!

Please pray that God will do ABUNDANTLY more than all we ask or even imagine through Kev's music!

I know we're all grieving over the recent loss of life in Afghanistan. Here are five specific ways you can pray for front-line workers in restricted nations and hostile areas:

1. Pray that the Lord will provide opportunities for them to share the gospel.

2. Pray that they will be strengthened and refreshed by God’s Word each day.

3. Pray for their boldness and courage in carrying out kingdom work.

4. Pray that their ministry activities will go unnoticed by potential persecutors.

5. Pray that front-line workers will sense God’s presence and peace as they minister in difficult and dangerous areas.

If you would like to support the people of Afghanistan, please consider donating to Samaritan's Purse, one of our long-term mission partners, as they minister to refugees who have fled Afghanistan.

Carlos & Yolanda Casco - Latin America

Please keep praying for Carlos & Yolanda Casco! They usually teach Inductive Bible Study & marriage seminars all over Latin America, but Covid has slowed down some of their travel. God has brought abundant fruit through Carlos teaching in a local congregation and over the internet. Please pray for fruit that lasts even after the pandemic! Please also pray as their son, Carlos, prepares to return to Ecuador and begin training to take over their ministry.

Matt & Jonna - Central Asia

Praise God along with Matt & Jonna, who were able to return to Central Asia after a long furlough in the US due to Covid. Please pray:

  • for the 3 oldest children, who have returned to school and are doing well. Pray for all 4 children as they miss their relatives and friends in the USA.
  • for the whole family to transition back to a very different way of life, and to stay physically, spiritually, and emotionally healthy during those changes.
  • For their local friend, "Gerry", a young man who accepted Christ at the end of 2020. He will be visiting with them and getting some major dental work done. Pray for Gerry to be firmly established in his faith in a culture that is very antagonistic toward those who leave the predominant religion to become Christians, and pray for successful dental treatment.
Eddie & Barbie Broussard - Navigators

Eddie Broussard has the privilege of overseeing the Global Student Program (GSP) Experience. They have just discovered two more alumni from past Global Student Programs who have just become the leaders of Navigator ministries for their entire countries! They are seeing significant fruit being born for the work of the Kingdom through this GSP. Among the many blessings of this year’s program was a new extension of the GSP into French-speaking Africa in Cameroon! The entire English Speaking Program was translated by one of the young leaders in Cameroon into French every week for the Cameroonian participants in the GSP.

Life Equip Global

Life Equip Global is continuing to minister to leaders around the world in reaching out with the gospel in the midst of crisis pregnancies. Please pray for the group of 20 pastors and leaders from Uganda who recently finished the 10 week training. When taught how to share the gospel, one of the attendees rededicated his own life to the Lord! Pray for growth and fruit in the lives of these Ugandan men and women. Also please pray for the India team that is currently in training!

Northern Iraq & Lebanon

Thank God for the rest and refreshment He provided through pastors' conferences in Northern Iraq & Lebanon last month!

CWC Missionary Michael Parks shared the following testimonials from the families who attended:

"Thank you for teaching from the Word of God and encouraging us in these times of so much trouble in our country. You help us to stay and not leave." - Lebanese pastor

"I was like a man on the edge of a cliff ready to jump to escape the persecution. but after the conference, your team let me know others care about us, and I felt the presence of the Holy Spirit who encouraged me and gave me strength to stay with my church". - another Lebanese pastor

"When I heard about the conference, I was hesitant to come. I thought you were going to do what most Westerners do, tell us how to run a church & how to evangelize. I wasn't going to go to the conference, but the Holy Spirit told me to go, so I did. And I was surprised. You came to us humbly, as an equal and someone who loved us. You taught us from the Word of God and encouraged us in a time when we need to be strengthened." - Northern Iraqi pastor

"...you helped me believe women are not soft-minded. I can read and understand the Word of God." - one of the pastors' wives

"I've been excited about the conference, but I didn't believe we could be this encouraged. I thought hope was lost for good." - another pastors' wife

Thank you for praying for this conference, and please continue to pray that God will build up these leaders in very difficult places!

"But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." Isaiah 40:31

New Land for Pastors' School

Matt & Noelle Harris (serving in Uganda) shared that their current school had some challenges due to the business of BAM (the "Business as Mission" arm of the ministry) and the loud noise of our many milling machines. They were able to add two acres (the field in the picture above) to the property and it is close to Matt & Noelle's house! The land is beautiful and overlooks a beautiful valley. The have also settled on the design for the new school building for the pastors' school. Over $37,000 has already been raised to build the school, and they should start any time!

Chornomorsk, Ukraine

Janice Evans, serving in Ukraine, has had a rough few months. Her visa unexpectedly expired due to a change in how Ukraine is processing visas, and she had to go to Turkey to renew it since Europe was closed to her due to Covid.

Praises:

  • Even though the road seemed crooked, she reports that God made straight paths for her throughout the challenges of language, banking, insurance, Covid testing, and other legalities. Praise God for his peace and comforting presence in the middle of so many challenges!
  • Being in Turkey and experiencing the underlying tension of living in a country with a completely different religion encouraged Janice to pray for Turkey and the people living there.
  • The church plant is continuing to grow and bond together.

Prayers:

  • Pray with Janice that the Turkish people will experience the love and salvation of Jesus Christ!
  • Pray for Janice's new year-long visa to come as expected.
  • The church plant recently switched to preaching and teaching in Russian. They were previously using Ukrainian, but the area is predominantly Russian-speaking, so Russian is the heart language of most of the people. However, they are very patriotic Ukrainians, so there may be some who leave the church over the decision. Pray that it does not divide the church.
  • Mila, the 6 year old girl of another religion. Mila has cancer and hasn't been able to get chemo. Pray for her to gain weight and for her white blood cell count to rise so she is able to be treated. Please also pray for her and her family to respond to the love of God they see in Janice and other Christians ministering to them.
  • For Janice's safety in the midst of a big surge in vandalism and robberies in her neighborhood.
  • For wisdom in ministering to the church body.
  • For Janice as she navigates a memorial service for her mother. Her mother died at the beginning of Covid, and her sister has scheduled the service for October, with a family reunion to follow. Janice would love to be there, but cannot see how to arrange visa, travel, and Covid vaccinations by then. Please pray for God to give Janice miracles to be able to attend, or peace if He wants her to stay in Ukraine.
Kenyan Maasai Woman

Thank God for Mathare Worship Centre & Hope's Promise Sanctuary of Hope in Nairobi, Kenya, and their ministry to the poor & needy in Mathare Valley Slum and around Kenya.

Prayer Requests:

  • Kenya recently reinstated restrictions on public gatherings as Covid cases rose again. The USA also issued a fresh travel advisory against visiting Kenya. Please pray for the leaders of Mathare Worship Centre to navigate these challenges well.
  • Continue to pray for George, Peter, and Victor as they pursue post-high school education.
  • Pray for Christine, the mother of one of the Sanctuary of Hope - Kuza Program children, Ruth. Christine has chronic health issues and was recently hospitalized. She is now recovering but the family still needs help and support.
His Safe Haven - Liberia

Praise God for the work He continues to do through His Safe Haven in Liberia! The foster mothers who care for the children with special needs have come from poverty and lots of trauma. Many of them have experienced the death of their own children. A recent workshop helped them learn to deal with past trauma. Please pray these foster mums experience the grace and healing of Jesus!

Starting Over on the Inside

Please continue to pray for Starting Over on the Inside workshops! These in-person and virtual seminars reach men & women in prison with news of the transformation available for those who trust in Christ. Covid has been a big challenge for prison ministry, but restrictions are beginning to change. Each prison is still in the process of determining how to combine living units/pods.

Prayer Requests:

  • for the already scheduled workshops in Fremont, Four Mile, Territorial, Colorado State Penitentiary, Buena Vista, and LaVista Women's Prisons. For men and women to be able to attend, for their hearts to be softened and ready, and for them to hear and respond to God's Word and principles.
  • for the Monday night Bible Study in Fremont Prison that will restart this month.
  • for volunteers! Please pray about becoming a part of their team for Monday nights, weekend services, or workshop facilitators. You can click the button below, call Mark at 719-499-8293, or email mark@startingoverworkshops.com. “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few.
