Dr. Julie Miller-Cribbs was an invited keynote speaker at an international conference on child safety sponsored by the Korean Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Association of Child Care and Education Childcare Center. Her talk was titled "Creating Safer Children Through Innovative Social Simulation". She met scholars from Korea, Finland and Japan!
OU-Tulsa was in the house at OICWA (Oklahoma Indian Child Welfare Association) 2019. These are some of our students, alumni, staff and faculty who attended. We were represented well with these folks and more!
Graduate students in Norman worked with the Simulation Coordinator and SPs (actors) to create an educational toolkit to submit to the US Embassy in Thailand. The embassy staff will use that toolkit for the Victim Centered Approach in cases of sexual assault. Students spent this entire semester accumulating knowledge and developing a strategic plan and educational toolkit. They created ‘good cop/bad cop’ scenarios, which will be the core of the educational toolkit. They worked with the Simulation Coordinator and SPs to actually shoot the videos!
This fall students and faculty from the Norman campus hosted a PIE IN THE FACE fundraiser for their upcoming social justice spring break trip to attend a national conference in Birmingham, Alabama and stop at other historical sites along the Civil Rights Trail including Little Rock, Memphis, Selma, and Montgomery. This group of 11 students accompanied by Professors Renea Butler-King and Jennifer Dell plan to share with other schools around the country about the intentional way the Anne and Henry Zarrow School of Social Work is beginning to address race. This student group and faculty will be able to reflect and dialogue throughout this social justice experience and identify continued efforts that can be made to address racism and injustice. Due to the tremendous support of the students, staff, and faculty this event raised over $400. The group hopes to raise $7,000 to support the costs of this trip. Additional fundraisers are planned including a benefit dinner/ silent auction on February 7th from 7-9 pm. If you are interested in donating to these efforts please contact Jennifer Dell at 405-325-6772 or jenniferdell@ou.edu.
