A Note from the Principal...

Welcome back! We hope that everyone enjoyed their time off for Fall Break last week. We are now starting our second nine weeks of school. School pictures were sent home this week, and report cards will be going home on Friday. This time of year begins to get busy, so please make sure to read below to keep up with the different activities going on.

Important Information

Red Ribbon Week/Book Character Day Next Week!

Next week is Red Ribbon Week. Below, you will find the dress up days for each day of the week. Friday is Book Character Day where students can dress up as their favorite book character. Students should come to school dressed in their costume. Please do not dress up as any scary book characters, and we do not allow masks.

IREAD-3 Testing for 4th Grade

Each year, third grade is required to administer the IREAD-3. The IREAD-3 is an assessment that measures the foundational reading standards. Last year, the third class was not able to take the IREAD-3 assessment because it is administered in the spring. We now have to administer the assessment to the fourth grade students since they missed the assessment last year. We will be giving the assessment on November 3rd and 4th.

Please make sure your child gets plenty of rest on test days, as well as a good breakfast. We wish the 4th graders the best of luck on the test!

Socktober

The third grade will be collecting socks next week for "Socktober". They will be collecting socks for the homeless. You may bring in as many pairs of socks that you would like, just make sure they are new! Each class will be collecting and recording how many they collect. Thanks for your help!

Disney Pay-Day

On Friday, October 9th, students were rewarded for their hard work during the first nine weeks of school. Classes participated in a variety of activities related to Disney throughout the day. They made crafts, watched Disney movies, rode virtual rides from the theme parks, and had Disney snacks!

Free Lunch/Breakfast

Good News! Loogootee Community Schools learned that the Indiana Department of Education has accepted the USDA waiver to provide FREE breakfast and lunch to all students through September 2021!

Veteran's Day

November 11th is a special day at Loogootee Elementary. This is a day that we honor our Veterans. In years past, we have put on a program for the Veterans, however, due to COVID, we are not able to do that this year.

To honor our Veterans, we will wear red, white, and blue. Classrooms will be writing letters and coloring pictures to send to Veterans. A note will be going home next week asking for addresses so we can send these to our area Veterans.

Scholastic Book Fair

Loogootee Elementary will host our virtual Scholastic Book Fair October 19th-November 1st. Click the link below to order!
