Avondale Newsletter 16th December 2016

Ofsted Update

Further to my note in the last Newsletter, you should by now have received a copy of the Inspector’s report following their visit in November. This has also been posted on the school website and will be available on the Ofsted website from Thursday 15 December. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like to discuss any aspect of the report. Mrs V Brown, Headteacher.

christmas fair

PTFA

A huge thank you to all children and parents that supported our Christmas Fair on 3 December. The turnout was fabulous and I know that a good time was had by all. The total amount raised was just over £1300 and I know that the PFTA are considering how best to use these monies to support Avondale and its children. We will let you know their decision in due course.

End of term assembly

This will take place on Thursday 22 December at 9.00 am where we will be presenting Pupil of the Term, 100% Attendance and Grammar Awards.

governance update

I thought it would be useful to update you regarding the School’s Governing Body. Our Chair of Governors, Mr John Bentley, has decided—after 14 years’ of service to the School—to step down. This coincides with his move away from the area to be nearer to his family.

The service John has given to the school has been amazing and his commitment and passion outstanding. He has been a significant presence in school and I know that children and staff have always valued his support.

Ms Chris Southworth will be taking over as Chair. Chris has been a Governor at the school for numerous years and has a wealth of experience which will be invaluable to us.

Community Carol Concert—9.30 am Weds 21 December

Community Concert

Come and join us for some festive cheer at the KS1 Carol Concert. Nothing can get you more into the festive spirit than a good sing along. There will be the opportunity for you to join in as well as having a brew and a mince pie.

school council

This week the School Council visited the Blackburn with Darwen Foodbank with Miss Harrison and Mrs Mears. Our children were overwhelmed with the work the charity does and realised they do so much more than hand food out. It was really lovely for the children to see where all the food we collected for Harvest went.

christmas carols

Year 3 and 4 children went to Sunnyhurst Woods this week to sing Christmas carols under the bandstand watched by parents. Some of the school choir have also sung at the Sunnyhurst Community lunch.

kurling

Some of our Year 2’s pupils attended a Kurling competition at St Bede’s High School on Tuesday with Miss Lysons. The team consisted of: Maisie Crabtree, Solomon Naylor, Eve Huddart, Tristan Walsh and Kade Turner-Cathie

Results were mixed winning some games and losing others. This the first time we have entered this competition and all children represented the school very well.

Year 5/6 dancers

Our Dance Club has been really busy this week performing in the Christmas Dance Show at Darwen Vale High School. They have performed three times during the day and at two evening sessions. They have been practising after school throughout the last term enabling them to perform an outstanding festive number. Huge thanks to Mrs Morgan for giving up her time to organise this.
