Spring Back to School Cookout

We hosted our Spring Back to School Cookout in the McAdams shop with the help of Ag Mech Club and Agribusiness Club. We invited those who are members of CCFFA, Ag Mech Club and AgriBusiness to join us to start off the semester. We also invited members of faculty to join us as well. There was over a 130 members and guests in attendance. This event is just a time for us to gather together to have great food and fellowship before we got back into the full swing of things. We appreciate all who helped make this cookout possible.

FFA Week

This year for FFA week, two days included going bowling at Clemson University's Underground Recreation Center and playing bingo which was located in McAdams Hall. For bowling, we had an outstanding crowd, fun competition, and can't forget the awesome snacks and music. Bingo included ten exciting and competitive rounds. The end of each round consisted of cool and fun prizes. Congratulations to our big winner for the final round of bingo who received a gift card to Chick-Fil-A, Emily Scruggs. This was a time for great memories to be made with friends and classmates.

It is a tradition for FFA to celebrate Legislative Appreciation Day. This year five officers and our advisor Dr. Byrd traveled to the State House in Columbia to show our appreciation to our state legislators. We started our morning by meeting with Representative Gary Clary. We had the pleasure of meeting with Superintendent of Education, Molly Spearman, who listened in on our advice at making the school system better. The ceremony held by the state officer team had a wonderful turnout and we definitely enjoyed it. Mr. John Parris, an important figure in the organization, provided us with a wonderful lunch before we headed back to Clemson. We want to thank everyone who was a part of that spectacular day, it was definitely one for the books!

As part of our FFA Week activities we hosted the Ag Olympics and invited local middle school chapters to join us to celebrate FFA week. We had a variety of games such as nail driving, pickle spitting contest, moo-off, milk chugging, hay bale race, and many more fun games. This event was a great time for us to get to know some of the local chapters as well as giving them the opportunity to make friends from neighboring chapters. For each game we had first, second and third place winners. We ended our night by having cake to celebrate National FFA Week. CCFFA Officers also attended the Mr. FFA Pageant that was hosted by Pendleton High School to wrap up an amazing FFA week!

Give The Gift of Blue

This year the CCFFA Officer Team decided to take part in the Give the Gift of Blue Program. We celebrated Give FFA Day by awarding two outstanding members of the Walhalla FFA Chapter by awarding them with their first FFA Jacket. Both students had very unique SAE projects and were competing in multiple CDEs during the year. Congratulations Levi Tippett and Katelyn Hancox for your hard work and we hope to continue to watch you prosper in your FFA journey!

Outstanding Member Spotlight

Erica Wearing

Erica is a sophomore at Clemson University studying Agricultural Education. The CCFFA Officers have chosen Erica Wearing because of her outstanding leadership skills and willingness to serve others.

You can sometimes catch Erica giving tours of campus to visitors and potential students as she is a tour guide and serves as secretary for the Clemson University Guide Association. Erica also represents the College of Agriculture as a prestigious CAFLS Ambassador. She is an active sister of the Sigma Alpha Professional Agricultural Sorority and serves as 1st Vice President and as the Ag and Natural Resources Chair. Erica serves as the CAFLS Representative for Clemson CHANGE Ethics Board and she is also a Housing Resident Assistant on campus. Off campus Erica serves as a Youth Group Volunteer and Grounds Crew for Clemson Church of Christ and is a National Church of Christ Disaster Relief Volunteer.

We asked Erica, “What are you looking forward to the most when we return to school?”

She responded, “While this semester was not what we expected, it reminded me what I love most about Clemson. This fall I am looking forward to making more memories with friends on campus. I am also ready to take normal in person classes again rather than online Zoom meetings. I think coming back this fall will make me and everyone on campus appreciate our time spent together. I definitely won't take all the little moments spent with the AGED family for granted!”

We are all so proud of your involvement on campus and we believe you do an outstanding job representing CCFFA, AgEd, and the College of Agriculture. Keep up the hard work!
