Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease

Who: It affects people of all ages but mostly people over the age of 18. It is very common with over 3 million US cases per year. About half of American adults experience GERD at least once a month. It can also sometimes affect cats and dogs.

Where: Anywhere??? It occurs in the lower esophagus or in the lower chest area.

Why: smoking, drinking, and obesity makes it more probable to contract GER

How: It is a common disease that can affect anyone so it is important to learn it in the event that we or a loved one catches it.

Prevention:Quit smoking,Loose clothing,Smaller meals,Not lying down for at least 3 hours after eating

Histamine-2 (stimulates acid production),Nizatidine, Cimetidine, Ranitidine

Proton Pump Inhibitors,Rabeprazole, Esomeprazole, Lansoprazole, Omeprazole, Omeprazole, Dexlansoprazole

Promotility Agents,Metoclopramide, Propulsid
