Gleanings From the Field October - December 2016 & January 2017

Dear Support Family,

Another year has come and gone! As I look back over the last year of living in Thailand among the Thai people, I am reminded of Psalm 90:12 which says, "So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom." Truly, this is one of the great need in our lives. If sin's greatest task is to waste our days - be it in blatant sinful living or Christ-less morality - then our mission is to develop a heart of wisdom that might not squander these few, precious years that we have on earth. I pray that God gives each of us a "heart of wisdom" during this new year!

One of the biggest things that God has revealed to me over the last year is His incredible willingness to provide all that is needed for my spiritual, physical, and emotional well-being. Please read the following quote by C.H. Spurgeon:

“Ought we not to look upon our own history as being at least as full of God . . . as the lives of any of the saints who have gone before? We do our Lord an injustice when we suppose that He wrought all His mighty acts, and showed Himself strong for those in the early time, but doth not perform wonders or lay bare His arm for the saints who are now upon the earth.”

To date, God has supplied over $25,000 during the last year to support me in Thailand! This simple fact blows me away for behind this number are so many individuals and families who have sacrificed that I could serve God overseas. I am so humbled by His grace and His people's love and generosity. Thank you!

God has also raised up 5 new believers during the last year that are being discipled and following Christ! One of these new believers is a political science student named Earth (See June Newsletter). Earth salvation is a special blessing to me because it is the first guy that we've seen receive Christ and be discipled in the 4 years of CO's presence in Chiang Mai. I am praying that as Earth matures in his faith, God would use him in a might way to reach his fellow Thai countrymen. We have truly seen God's mighty arm at work last year in Chiang Mai, Thailand!

Life in Thailand & America!
These two pictures contain every Campus Outreach minister - with families - in Thailand! The first picture is our entire STINT team including our leaders Bob and Courtney McGregor. These pictures were taken at a staff retreat in Chiang Mai. All of the staff from Chiang Mai and Khon Kaen were present at this retreat! To say this time was an encouragement to my soul would be a huge understatement.
One of the highlights for me on this staff retreat was connecting with two Thai men on staff. Arm - red shirt top picture - and Lew - black shirt top picture - have been on staff for about the same time that I have been on staff. They came to know Jesus through the ministry of Campus Outreach and are now reaching out to their fellow Thai countrymen with the Gospel! Lew told me that when he came to Christ he went home and told his parents about his new relationship with Jesus. At first, they were hesitant and skeptical, but as they continued to interact with Lew they began to see a drastic change in his life. Lew continued to serve them and tell them about Christ, and, over time, the Holy Spirit worked in their lives. Lew's Mother, Father, and sister are now believers!
Arm - far right - stayed at our house for a couple days after the staff retreat was over and was able to meet some our Thai friends. This picture was taken at a "milk shop"; the Thai's version of a milk shake shop. Aun - far left - joined us this night!
I was able to visit the States for Christmas!

Many of you know that I was in the states to renew my visa over Christmas. I stayed pretty close to home during this time because of the short length of my stay. I am sorry that I wasn't able to see everyone, but I will be back next year for Christmas ,and, Lord willing, hope to see all of you in person!

The whole Dooley family! This picture of my family was taken right after my younger brother Benjamin - far left - proposed to his girlfriend, Hannah Dunn. This was such a special night for the whole family.
Dad and I traveled down to West Virginia to see Grandpa and go hunting! Here are some of the pictures we took while we were hunting in the Allegheny mountains. We didn't see any game, but we were able to watch the snow roll while we were sitting on top of a mountain! These times become more and more precious to me as I grow older.
I was able to share about God's work over the last year at my home church, Calvary Baptist Church, during my stay in the States! Though I hadn't seen many of the people for several month, it was as if I had never left. The body of Christ here is so special to me. Also, it was a unexpected treat to be able to sing worship songs and listen to a sermon in English!
Please Pray...
  1. That God would save Aun, Woot, Jin-Lee, and Mam this year. We've known Aun for the last year in Thailand and he has become one of our dearest Thai friends. Aun has hear the Gospel many times, but still hasn't made Jesus Lord over his life. Woot, Jin-Lee, and Mam are science majors that Taylor Wilson and I have spent a lot of time with. Woot and Jin-Lee are interested in studying the Bible! Please pray that God would soften their hard hearts to His Gospel.
  2. For my personal growth. Would you pray Matt. 5:1-12 (The Beatitudes) over my life this year? I am still so young and immature in many areas of my spiritual and emotional life.
  3. For God's clear leadership in future decisions. I have been with CO for the last year and will be re-evaluating this December before I head back to the States. Thought this seems like a long time away, I know that December will be here before I know it.
In Closing...

I am looking forward to what God is going to be doing through our ministry in Chiang Mai this year! Would you join me in praying that God would move in a mighty way this year? I love you guys and am praying that each of you would, "Clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity." (Colossians 3:12-14) As always, I would love to hear from any of you!

Also, if any of you would like to Skype me, let me know and I'd be happy to meet with you!

Your Fellow Laborer,

James Dooley
