Girls Garage 2020 Builder Bootcamp This summer, girls garage held OUR builder bootcamp VIRTUALLY VIA ZOOM. Each of the students explored VISUAL ART, engineering, and architecture using a series of creative prompts. the following are their collected works!

Prompts: Visual Art + Architecture

Visual art instruction was led by Baltimore Design School educator Meghann Harris, engineering instruction by Allison Oropallo, and architectural instruction by Emily Pilloton and Hannah Geitner. We were also supported by Girls Garage's Creative Director, Amanda Hinton, and Girls Garage junior instructors Ally Lee and Tori Creaves (current teen participants). Creative prompts challenged girls to express their story, identity, and spatial ideas through visual media. Visual art prompts drew from comic book art and social justice illustration: some were silly, some told their story, and some asked them to share their voice. Architectural prompts explored technical drawings used by the architectural and building industry and how to represent space from multiple perspectives. Below is a sampling of some of their prompts that you will see in the show:

  1. Meet the Artist Illustration
  2. A Day in the Life
  3. Who Does Your Mask Protect?
  4. What's On Your HeART?
  5. Three-Word, Three-Panel Stories
  6. Plan/Section/Elevation Drawings of Fruit + Vegetables
  7. Floorplans and Sections of "Dream Rooms"
  8. 3D scale models of "Dream Rooms"

Our Collective Zoom Whiteboard!

On the last day of class, girls took over a shared Zoom whiteboard and filled it with love, messages, emojis, and joy. We are so grateful to have worked with this wonderful group of creative young builder/artist women!
