Job Description

  • Conducts the preoperative assessment of the patient
  • An evaluation process that determines the safest anesthesia plan for each patient based on their current state of health
  • Makes the anesthesia related perioperative medical decisions
  • Leads the Anesthesia Care Team
  • Responsible for the wellbeing of patients before, during, and after the course of the surgery

Education

Obtain a M.D. degree

  • 4 years of undergraduate study
  • 4 years in medical school
  • 3-7 years in an anesthesiology residency program

Take the U.S Medical Licensing Examination for license from state

Take the American Board of Anesthesiology exam for certification

Additional subspecialty certification: critical care medicine, pain medicine, hospice and palliative medicine, pediatric anesthesiology
