MY ART WORKSHOPS ARE VERY INFORMAL AND RELAXED. The common goal is to learn more about art and enhance our own creative efforts. That means you don't even have to be a wildlife artist to participate. We have still life painters, landscape artists, even carvers and they work in a variety of mediums including watercolor, acrylic, pastels, colored pencil, oil and more. Joining a group of artists for a workshop of painting and sharing is truly worthwhile. This creative camaraderie is both inspiring and fulfilling. I make every effort to work ONE-on-ONE as much as possible. If you have any questions about my artists workshops please don't hesitate to contact me by email, letter, or phone.

I sponsor an annual artists workshop at the end of August each year. This workshop is held at an old log lodge facility on the banks of the Au Sable River near Grayling, Michigan, which is located in the northern part of Michigan's lower peninsula. I also do workshops in various locations for other art groups and organizations. If you know of such a group that might be interested, have them contact me for more information.

2016 Artists Workshop Gang

NEW - I am doing a spring workshop for Up North Arts, Inc., which will be held at the Elks Lodge in Cadillac, Michigan. This is a two-day workshop. There is an Artist's Reception Tuesday, April 25th, 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm and it is open to the public. The workshop will be Wednesday, April 26th and Thursday, April 27th, from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm each day. The cost is $170 and there is a limit of 15 artists. The registration deadline is April 1, 2017. Details for the workshop, including registration will be on the Up North Arts Facebook page beginning March 1.

INSTRUCTION IN MULTIMEDIA PAINTING AND MORE. Workshops are a great way to meet and share with other artists. They provide a time and place to concentrate on your art as well as a chance to get away and let your creative juices flow. Plan to make the weekend a mini-vacation. Stay with us at the camp, even if you are nearby, so you will not miss any of the programs and discussions.

I encourage participants to bring any work for critique, finished or unfinished, wildlife, landscape, or other. I offer private critiques, but encourage participation in the group critiques. This is a good way to see your work and get everyone to become better acquainted through their art.

THE WORKSHOP PACKAGE: Open painting anytime and individual instruction when needed. Three meals each day, except the last day which has breakfast and lunch. Snacks and refreshments will be readily available throughout the workshop. Hiking and free canoeing activities are also available. This is a rustic log cabin setting and it should be relaxed, casual and fun experience. Dress is very casual. There will be some outside walking between sleeping cabins, dinning rooms, and the work area. Prepare for all types of weather. The total cost for lodging, food, and instruction is listed on the newsletter and registration form. If you have any questions, please contact me.

Evening Critique

A WORKSHOP FOR ARTISTS OF ALL STAGES. The program is for beginners and professionals - and anyone in between. This is a very informal and relaxed workshop. The workshop will be limited to about 15 people, which makes for a better situation for individual learning and instruction. Our usual plans are open painting with one-on-one instruction. There will be group critiques and discussions as well.

ACCOMMODATIONS: Workshop participants will be working and staying at Wa-Wa-Sum. As mentioned above, this is a very old and very rustic log facility. Bedrooms and bathrooms are located in the main lodge, in hallways off the side of the main work room. Rooms will be at least double occupancy, in some cases there may be three or four artists to a room. Due to limited space, I do not have accomodations for couples. You must bring your own sheets or sleeping bag, pillow or pillow case, and towels. (Ear plugs are optional!) The shared bath and shower are located in a separate room in each of the two hallways. Each room does have a sink and mirror. Meals are served in a separate kitchen building.
