metals are in the green part of the periodic table nonmetals are in the orange part of the periodic table metalloids are in the blue most of them are metals
protons = positive electrons = negative neutrons = no charge
dmitri mendeleev was the father of the periodic table
noble gases are the least reactive metals are the most reactive
group names
1: alkali metals
Group 2: alkaline earth metals
Group 11: coinage metals
Group 15: pnictogens
Group 16: chalcogens
Group 17: halogens
Group 18: noble gases
Atoms- atoms are the basic unit of elements
valence electron is an electron that is associated with an atom, and that can participate in the formation of a chemical bond
Balancing Equations-Because you added coefficients to the molecules on the right side of the equation the number of oxygen atoms has change
Where are the reactants and products in a chemical equation? the addition sign is the reactant and the arrow means produces
Count the atoms of each element in the reactants and the products Use coefficients place them in front of the compound
one happens physically and the other happens chemically so sometimes you cant see when a chemical change is happening but there are other times you can examples of physical change are melting ice , tearing paper , boiling water , freezing kool-aid examples of chemical change are burning , metal rusting , reacts with other sustances
color chage, formation of a precipitate, formation of a gas, odor change, temperature
