Isham Update May 2019

Summer Term

A warm welcome back to you all after what, I hope, was a lovely Easter break. This half term is a short one but it is definitely going to be a busy one. The children have returned to school to find their classrooms revamped, ready for their new projects. This term’s projects are as follows:

  • Reception – On Holiday
  • Years 1 and 2 – Royal Ball
  • Years 3 and 4 – The Chocolate Factory
  • Years 5 and 6 – Invaders are Coming!

Greater details of each project can be found on our website - www.ishamprimary.org.uk

May Gala Day

We do hope you will all join us for our annual May Gala Day celebrations on Saturday May 11th. FOIS are organising some fantastic stalls for Gala Day but they are still in need of the following donations:

  • Bottles (preferably alcohol but also soft drinks or anything that comes in a bottle)
  • Fresh produce (pickles etc)
  • Plants
  • Home made crafts
  • Chocolate (ideally multipacks)
  • Bric a brac that is either new or in great condition (toys - though preferably not preschool age, bath smellies, knick-knacks etc)
  • Books and cakes (homemade ones go down a treat)

FOIS are still in desperate need of some more volunteers. Many hands make light work, so if you are able to offer some support with preparations, or on the day itself, please make yourself known to FOIS via email FOIS@ishamprimary.org.uk or drop in to the office and we can pass your details on - even if it is just for 30 minutes it all helps!

Remember - we are hoping to raise enough money to be able to fund 15 new iPads that children throughout the whole school can use, so let's make it the biggest and best event yet!!!

Thank you

We would also like to say a big thank you to the hard work of our FOIS team who have raised enough money to fund a number of projects in school. They provided funds for building work in Key Stage 2 so the two classrooms could finally have a brick-built wall separating them, instead of wooden doors. This has made a massive difference to the two classes. Secondly, keep a look out in the playground for some posh new picnic benches. The new benches will be made from recycled plastic so they will be more durable and, or course, we still want to do our bit for the environment, especially as this has been such a big focus for our Year 5 and 6 children over the last few months. We would appreciate it if you prevent your children from climbing on them at home-time; they do not do this during the school day - thank you!

Values Families Update

We had a lovely Easter themed end to the term that saw the children working together to make bunny ears and baskets ready for their Easter hunt. Beech, once again, demonstrated their great team work and perseverance by collecting the most Easter pebbles and receiving a chocolatey treat. A huge well done to Sycamore Family who were the overall winners of the ‘Values’ trophy. As we have just four weeks until the half term break we will only be having one winner for the summer term.

Forest School

Our Reception children are very excited to be starting their Forest School sessions again this week. Forest School is a way of learning in an outdoor environment where children can develop socially, emotionally, physically and spiritually through play and following individual and preferred learning styles. It is exciting and fun and promotes responsibility and respect for oneself, each other and the environment. Last year we also provided an opportunity for our Year 1 children to join Reception for their sessions. These sessions proved very successful and particularly helped to aid transition for our Reception children when they moved into Year 1, as they became familiar with their new teachers and their future classmates. We are pleased to say we will be carrying out these sessions again in June with the first session for Year 1s starting on Tuesday 18th June - an email with more information about these sessions will be sent out soon.

Parent Prayer Group

We have held the first Parent Prayer meeting in school this morning led by Kylie (mum of James and Kate Y3 and 2). Some of you expressed interest in attending if the meeting was held on a different time or day and so the next meeting will take place on Tuesday 14th May at 3pm.

As James Ch.5 (New Testament) says 'Are any among you in trouble? They should pray. Are any among you happy? They should sing praises. Are any among you sick? They should pray...in the name of the Lord'.

We hope to see many of you on 14th.

Safeguarding

As always, we are continually reflecting on our practices, in a bid to ensure the safety of the children in our school. With this in mind, we are now asking that, during school hours, if you need to enter school that you do so via the main gate on Church Street and report directly to the office. Access via the gate in The Sorrells will be for morning drop-off and home-times only.

Decorating

We are pleased to say that the school received a bit of a makeover during the Easter holidays. The corridors at both ends of the school and the hall have all been painted and are now looking bright and fresh again. Classrooms will be revamped over the summer. We are also grateful to Claire Wiggins, through Howdens, who are providing us with a new staffroom kitchen that will also allow more opportunity for children to cook.

GDPR

As I am sure you are all aware, GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) has been a big talking point for many businesses and schools recently. With this in mind we would just like to sign post you to our updated Privacy Notices for both pupils and parents; these can be viewed on our website.
