A healthy diet should consist of balanced portions from each food group. There are the five groups of foods that contain nutritional value that we need daily; dairy, fruits, vegetables, protein, and grains. 50% of our plate should be fruits and vegetables, 25% should be grains, 25% should be protein, and a side should contain some type of dairy. Different food groups can be mixed such as pizza, that contains both dairy and grains, or soup, that can contain vegetables and protein.
A healthy diet is important because having healthy nutrition in your body can give you more nutritional value than just having an empty calorie snack giving a burst of short energy then crashing later. It can make you happier and more willing to go do things. A healthy diet reduces risks of diseases, such as heart disease, obesity, and type 2 diabetes. The pros of eating a healthy diet includes having more energy, better performance in sports, and keeps your body intact of all the tissues and muscles. A bad diet can cause health problems and diseases, feeling lethargic, and having poor attitude towards things.
Eating a healthy diet affects my ability to live a healthy and balanced life because I play sports year round. I play softball every season, and volleyball in the fall. I also handle large livestock such as cows and horses so I need to be able to hold on to them and not be pushed around or trampled by them. I like to be involved with my family, so I want to be able to be healthy enough to keep up with them and stay involved. I hang out and do a lot of activities with my brother, and I want to act as a role model, and have fun outside running around, rather than staying inside and playing video games.
