True Potential Education Our story

Dealing with Dyslexia can be a black hole for students, for educators, and for families. It can become a sinkhole of unanswerable questions, frustration, and self-doubt for everyone involved. This was the case for both of the TPE business partners, Dawn Philbin and Nina Lorimor Easley.

There wasn't anyone to go to when someone should have been there.

Dawn Philbin

Dawn Philbin unknowingly struggled with dyslexia. For years she felt judged and ostracized by well-meaning educators. She went through school never feeling smart, and always had to work extremely hard to do well in school.

It wasn’t until she was well into a Master’s Degree in Communication Disorders that she discovered for herself what it was she had gone through. Once making this (self) discovery Dawn became adopted a professional focus that now makes her arguably one of the most experienced dyslexia professionals in the state of Iowa.

Nina Lorimor-Easley

Nina Lorimor-Easley raised three children. Her oldest daughter who handled and internalized language without issue, and her two younger sons that struggled terribly. The social emotional toll that undiagnosed dyslexia took on her oldest son was life changing.

The endless battle she had to fight with the school, with her son, and with herself, left her looking back on the experience determined to ensure more families did not become victims of undiagnosed dyslexia. Nina too changed her professional direction to support families who are unknowingly walking the same walk. Nina has become one of the most knowledgeable voices on the social and emotional impact of dyslexia.

Together, Nina and Dawn have assembled a staff of professional dyslexia therapists that are skilled and passionate beyond compare. At True Potential Education our hearts break for the struggles of our families and soar when we get to celebrate hard earned successes, loud and proud.

At True Potential Education, what do matters. We teach people to read. We mend broken hearts. We give children confidence, and something to smile about. Sometimes we help hold disintegrating families together.

At True Potential Education we understand. We are here to help. We will make a difference.
