HotDocs Film Festival / First Look Forum
Every year CMP members attend the HotDocs/First Look Pitch Forum, where film teams pitch their latest projects to a roundtable of international commissioning editors, sales agents and funders for feedback and investment.
This year Paula and Steve represented CMP and CMP II at the roundtables, engaging with potential new projects for philanthropic support through our IMPACT GRANT FUND and investment support through our CMP I/I EQUITY FUND.
As a First Look Partner, CMP helped underwrite nearly half of the $125,000 First Look Pitch Prize awarded to 3 film projects in grants of $75,000, $30,000, and $20,000 as voted on by First Look partners.
HotDocs Film Festival Award Winner
We are pleased to announce that CMP-funded filmmakers Elan and Jonathan Bogarìn were awarded the Emerging International Filmmaker Award for 306 HOLLYWOOD!
“for its creative approach to issues of memory and legacy, exploring the universality of grief through the seemingly mundane relics left behind.”
CONGRATS ELAN & JONATHAN & THE ENTIRE 306 TEAM!
'As Netflix Goes Global, Can It Avoid Regional Politics?'
Netflix is under fire, around the world, not for its disruptive business model, but for the political content of its programming.
"Scandals involving shows in Brazil, Israel and the Philippines highlight the challenge for the streaming giant as it tries to grow internationally while staying above the local political fray."
In this edition of W/L/I, we share two companies working with CMP to increase impact in the documentary space:
Get to know PUBLIC GOOD
Public Good is a network of doers, people who want to make the world a better place. Our goal is to make moments of inspiration into inspiring action. We want everyone to be able to make a difference and encourage their communities to do the same.
CMP and Public Good have partnered together to create a special INNOVATION IN IMPACT GRANT as part of the CMP Impact Grant Fund. Rachel Pikelny was last year's inaugural recipient of CMP's IGF Public Good partnership award for GRACE.
Public Good's technology is in use by leading news outlets ranging from CNN to Univision to Upworthy, and today more than 30 million people have been able to support Public Good's network of nonprofits working on the world's most important causes. This CMP/Public Good partnership provides digital assets for filmmakers to utilize on their website, in emails and through texting.
