Pastors' Corner

Bees fly about 88,000km to make just 1/2 kilo of honey. That’s more than two times around the world! God created these amazing insects to be great at teamwork. As many as 80,000 bees live in a hive, and a hive can produce more than 35 kilos of honey each year. That’s a lot of honey!!!!!

What's so amazing about this is that each individual bee makes only 1½ teaspoons of honey during its entire lifetime. But bees can make a lot of honey because they work together! Teamwork also allows people to do more together than they could on their own.

A wise king named Solomon wrote in Ecclesiastes 4:9-10: “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.”

God created us (and bees) to work together and support one another. When we do, the results are sweet!

School Concert - The Sound of Music

The evening of Saturday, 5th August saw the final performance of five shows of our Middle School's production of "The Sound of Music". The production received amazing reviews from beginning to end but the final show was a highlight with the cast and crew receiving a standing ovation for their incredible efforts. It was a fantastic experience for all involved and we (the cast and crew) are very grateful for all the hard work put into making the show such a success by many teachers and parents. We were all so proud of the end result and can't wait for our next production in 2019. Emily Miller (8W)

Academic Olympics

Have you ever been to the Olympics? Because we have! On the 3rd of August, we attended the Academic Olympics. We are proud to say that we came FIRST (in the Stage 2: Year 3 & 4 division). It is an event where other Adventist Schools in Sydney come together to compete in a series of challenges across a wide variety of subjects. These include History and Geography, Bible, Science, Technology, English and Maths. It was hard and we needed lots of teamwork, but we enjoyed it a lot. Thank you, teachers, for a fun day! Our new trophies now sit proudly in our bedrooms.

Written by Annika Stone, Keira Cheung, Ariana Sim and Liana Johnson (Year 4)

The Academic Olympics was an amazing experience, as we learned many new skills! It was a great day of puzzles and activities that challenged our creative and academic minds. As Dr Carter shouted "GO" we gathered together to get through as many Maths questions we could within the 15min time limit. After we completed the Maths courses, we had to complete puzzles and challenges in Science, Technology, Geography, Bible and English, all within 15 mins!! We came SECOND (in the Stage 3: Years 5 & 6 division) against 5 other Adventist schools!!! The most important part of the day was not winning, but working together as a team. Variety Bash 2017

The bat mobile needs your help!

Can you help us raise $28,500 for Australian kids in need?

On Thursday my dad, who is dressed as the joker in the bat mobile, car 33, left Sydney with 200 other cars to raise funds for underprivileged children in Variety's 33rd Bash. This year the 10 day (4,658 kilometre) Bash travels inland visiting and providing much needed equipment for local schools and children in need and finishes at Buffalo Creek in the Northern Territory.

The bat mobile to date has raised $17,355 and our goal is to raise $28,500!!!!!

At the start of the bash we got to met a little girl called Goldie who suffers Retts Syndrome, a rare chromosome disorder that effects girls only. Goldie's mum explained to me that it would be unlikely that Goldie would walk or talk. Through fundraising Variety was able to provide Goldie with a special wheel chair and modifications to her families car.

Variety has helped over 140,000 thousand kids, and they support over 145 conditions. All money raised goes to empowering Australian children who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs by providing practical equipment, programmes and experiences.

The bat mobile needs your help! Ask your Mum or Dad to click on this link to made a tax deductible donation to Variety today or call variety on 49654911 and ask to donate to car 33 the bat mobile.

Thanks to everyone who gives to this valuable cause. Alexander Gardyne -Prep
