Abolitionist

Abolitionist were people that spoke out against slavery. These people would help African American and help them escape to the north or to other countries from slavery. A very well known abolitionist was Harriet Tubman, she saved hundreds of slaves from the south and worked as a spy for the Union.

Women's Rights

Women have been fighting for their rights for a long time in America. Women would like to hold office or have have voting rights or suffrage. Women right movements started in the U.S during the 19th century. Some notable women are Lucretia Mott, Elizabeth Candy Stanton.

Prison Reform

The prison reform outlaw cruel unusual punishment, the discounting debtors' prisons and the creation of a special justice system for children. This Reform started in the U.S during the 19th century.

Temperance Movement

Temperance movements typically criticize excessive alcohol consumption, promote complete abstinence, or use its political influence to press the government to enact alcohol laws to regulate the availability of alcohol or even its complete prohibition. This movement started during the early 19th century.

Education Reform

Education reform is the name given to the goal of changing public education. Historically, reforms have taken different forms because the motivations of reformers have differed. The education movement started during the 19th century.
