Princeton University Summer Day Camp Newsletter Week 1 - June 22-26, 2020

A note from our Camp Director, Sarah:

Today would have been our first day of camp! We are sad to know that we will not get to see all of our great campers this year, but we are hopeful that we can connect to our campers for the eight weeks of our originally scheduled camp via this newsletter. We will include beginner and advanced activities associated with weekly themes, along with resources for you all to complete camper activities right at home. Plus, our favorite counselors will also include a special message for our campers! We hope our Princeton University Summer Day Camp families are well and safe during this time, and that you all can mix in having a little fun, too. We miss you and hope to see you all soon!

This week's theme:

NATURE! Let's get outside and play!

Follow the steps below to build your forest and watch it grow!

Materials

  • empty container
  • dirt
  • seeds
  • water
  • sunlight

Steps to follow

  1. Find an empty container such as a pint of ice cream or empty cup and fill it with dirt.
  2. Plant seeds from either flowers or fruits, such as apples, lemons or strawberries in the dirt.
  3. Make sure your seedlings get plenty of sunlight and water.
  4. Give your plant a fun name!
  5. Take weekly pictures of the plant to measure its growth.

Find or Create Your Outdoor Happy Place

Materials:

  • creative items to add to your outdoor happy place
  • camera

Steps to follow:

  1. Find an outdoor area that you find pretty or calming - maybe it's a cool looking tree, beach or backyard.
  2. Add some creativity and comfort items to make your space just right.
  3. Snap a picture!
  4. Enjoy the moment.
