ASOMATHERMIC FISH BREAKDOWN- "a" mEaning "NO", "SOMA" MEANING "BODY", "THERM" MEANING "HEAT"

Ocean Zones and Habitat

THE ASOMATHERMIC FISH RESIDES IN MULTIPLE ZONES.

  1. THE BENTHIC ZONE BECAUSE IT CRAWLS ALONG THE OCEAN FLOOR
  2. THE PELAGIC ZONE BECAUSE IT LIVES IN THE WATER COLUMN
  3. THE APHOTIC ZONE BECAUSE THERE IS NO LIGHT DOWN IN THE DEPTHS OF THE OCEAN WHERE IT RESIDES
  4. THE BATHYPELAGIC ZONE BECAUSE IT LIVES 4,000 M DEEP

THIS HABITAT HAS NEAR FREEZING TEMPERATURES, NO LIGHT, EXTREME PRESSURE AND LOTS OF NUTRIENTS DUE TO DETRITUS.

TRAITS AND ADAPTATIONS

  • IN ORDER FOR THE ASOMATHERMIC FISH TO SEE IN IT'S DARK HABITAT, IT CREATES A BIOLUMINESCENCE WHICH IS THE BODY CREATING A NATURAL LIGHT. IT ALSO HAS LARGE EYES TO SEE IN THE DARK.
  • THE ASOMATHERMIC FISH HAS A UNIQUE, RARE LIGHT PATTERN ON IT'S BODY THAT ATTRACTS MATES AND CAN CONFUSE PREDATORS
  • TO SURVIVE IN SUCH LOW TEMPERATURES, IT HAS LOOSE FLEXIBLE PROTEINS AND UNSATURATED MEMBRANES THAT DO NOT STIFFEN, CAUSING THE FISH TO NOT FREEZE TO DEATH.

"TRANSPORTATION"

THE ASOMATHERMIC FISH HAS SMALL, ALMOST INVISIBLE HAIRS THAT ATTACH TO SAND TO HELP SLOWLY ROLL ALONG THE SEA FLOOR.

RESPIRATION

IN ORDER TO BREATH, AN ASOMATHERMIC FISH HAS A WATER VASCULAR SYSTEM THAT MOVES WATER THROUGH A NETWORK OF FLUID-FILLED CANALS THAT TRAVEL

FEEDING

ASOMATHERMIC FISH ARE SCAVENGERS MEANING THEY FEED ON DETRITUS THAT FLOAT TO THE BOTTOM OF THE OCEAN. THIS MEANS THEY ARE CONSIDERED DEPOSIT FEEDERS BECAUSE THEY FEED OFF ORGANIC MATTER OFF THE SAND.

REPRODUCTION

ASOMATHERMIC FISH REPRODUCE ASEXUALLY, MEANING THEIR OFFSPRING ARISES FROM A SINGLE ORGANISM AND INHERIT THE GENES OF THAT PARENT ONLY. ASEXUAL REPRODUCTION DOES NOT INVOLVE FUSION OF GAMETES.

DEFENSE STRATEGIES

THE ASOMATHERMIC FISH HAVE ELECTRIC SHOCKERS ALONG THEIR COLORFUL PATTERNS TO SHOCK PREDATORS BUT TO PREVENT ANYTHING FROM EVEN NEARING, THE FISH PROJECTS ITS COLORS LIKE A FLASHLIGHT TO CONFUSE THE PREDATOR WITH ALL THE LIGHTS AND COLORS FLASHING IN THE DARK.

BENTHOS

THE ASOMATHERMIC FISH LIVES A VAGRANT BENTHOS LIFESTYLE BECAUSE, THOUGH SLOWLY, IT MOVES AROUND THE SEA FLOOR.
