Headteacher Weekly Update 10/12/18 - 14/12/18

'Alice's Alloa Adventure' was an amazing success.

Both nights were very busy and the pupils on stage and behind the scenes done a fantastic job! I attended on Thursday night with my daughter and we both had a great night, it really put us in the festive mood.

Over 30 pupils and 20 staff were involved in the production and they should all be very proud of how it went. From selling tickets, make-up and costumes to supporting the set design, it requires a massive amount of teamwork. The Parent Council and sponsors are extremely important in supporting the event and making it the success it is.

Thanks to Mr Jack for going above and beyond.

S3 Film - Jim Goodwin

Well done to the S3 Film and Photography group and Mr Robertson who invited Jim Goodwin (Alloa Athletic - Manger) into Alloa Academy for an exclusive interview. Jim was extremely generous with his time and went out his way to give pupils the chance to ask him questions. The class are editing the video and will share it on our 'Alloa Academy TV YouTube' channel over the coming weeks.

Creativity Across Learning

Mr West and the Maths dept were getting creative with S1's this week, by making these beautiful dodecahedron inspired baubles. I learned something new from the tweets that explained that dodecahedron are platonic solids with 12 faces, 20 vertices and 30 edges. Every day is a school day!

Vision and Values

On Monday, Mr McGhee lead a very engaging session that analysed all of the feedback from parents, pupils and staff on our future Vision and Values. The session included staff and pupils from across the school. This is an important step towards developing our new Vision and Values which will last for years to come.

Modern Studies - Politics

Our Modern Studies pupils welcomed Keith Brown (Depute Leader of SNP, MSP for Clackmannanshire+ Dunblane), Ellen Forson (Leader of Clackmannanshire Council, SNP Councillor for Clacks South) and Luke Graham (MP for Ochill and South Perthshire). They spoke passionately about current affairs, putting classroom theory into real life context for our pupils. We really appreciate this high level of support from our local politicians.

Christmas Card - Winner

Well done to Skylar McLennan, S3, who designed this years Alloa Academy Christmas card. It is lovely artwork which shows the Old Docks.

Finally, I hope you have a fantastic end to what has been a very busy term.

This will be the last update of 2018 and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all for your hard work.

I hope you have a great time with friends and family over the holidays.

Merry Christmas.

Colin Bruce
