- Issue 3: Thursday 7th March 2019
Dear Parents, Carers and Students,
Next Thursday, March 21, our school will celebrate Harmony Day. Harmony Day is a special occasion for all Australians to recognise the many cultural groups which make up our wonderful country. Every one of our families came to Australia from another place, particularly during the last 250 years. Prior to this time, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people arrived here via Asia about 60,000 years ago.
Our community is a fine example of modern Australia with people from many countries and cultural backgrounds settling in the area. Amongst our students, we have over 35 different cultural groups. We all value the freedom that we enjoy, our way of life and support for each other. We celebrate our diversity and similarities. We are all people who want to lead happy, successful lives which starts with the high quality education our children receive at our school. This education lays the foundation for our students’ future success and happiness.
We invite all students to wear ORANGE clothing next Thursday to show support for our multicultural and diverse country. A short assembly will be held at 9.00 am on the day to celebrate our achievements and dreams.
It is very pleasing to see our students wear the correct school uniform every day. The uniform is very colourful and looks good. Unfortunately, some students are not wearing plain black shoes. Black shoes are part of our uniform, except on Sports Days. Black sports shoes can be purchased which can be worn every day. I will be sending Reminder letters to families of students who are not wearing plain black shoes this week to ensure that the full uniform is worn.
P AND C MEETING
Our next P and C meeting will be held next Tuesday, March 19 at 9.00 am in the Parent Café. I will be presenting our new report format at this meeting. A review of the report format was undertaken at the end of last year with suggestions for improvements made a P and C meeting and by staff. The school executive analysed the suggestions and comments and has created a more straightforward and easier to read format. This new format will be used for the Semester 1 report next term.
PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS
Our Term 1 interviews are scheduled for Week 10 beginning on Monday April 1. You will receive a letter inviting you to nominate a date and time to meet with your child’s teacher/s. This is a great opportunity to meet the teacher/s, hear about your child’s progress and areas for improvement.
COMMUNITY DAY IS COMING
On WEDNESDAY, APRIL 10, we will be holding our annual Community Day celebrations. An invitation was sent to families last week. Students are able to bring in money for coupons which will be used to buy items on the day. We will have multicultural dances, great food, stalls and rides. I hope that you can join in the fun on this special day. The action begins at 9.15 am and ends at 2.30 pm.
