2016 Dayton Softball A Season in review

The Flyers completed their 2016 season with an overall record of 27-21-1, becoming the first Flyer softball team to go above .500 in back-to-back seasons.

The Flyers competed against Top 25 teams Tennessee, Ohio State, and No. 2 Michigan in the 2016 season.

Junior Gabrielle Snyder was an All-Atlantic 10 First Team member for the second straight year and member of the NFCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region First Team. She led the Flyers' offense in average (.379), slugging (.544), on-base percentage (.441), runs scored (20) and doubles (13). Snyder also earned a spot on the A-10 All-Academic team as well.
Sophomore Manda Cash was named the Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Year as well as a NFCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region and All-Atlantic 10 First Team selection after finishing the season with 11 wins and a 1.42 ERA. The left-hander led the conference and tied the UD record for strikeouts in a season (183), had the highest strikeouts per seven innings mark (8.4), and held opponents to just a .158 batting average.
Freshman Jessica Gilliam was named to the All-Rookie team after earning Rookie of the Week two times and finishing the regular season with an overall ERA of 2.99 and an even 50 strikeouts.
Freshman Kyle Davidson was also named to the All-Rookie team, playing in 33 games while making 24 starts. The catcher threw out 37% of would-be base stealers.
The 2016 seniors left the program as the all-time winningest class in Dayton history, and is the first ever Flyer team to have back-to-back above .500 seasons.
Dayton had a team GPA of 3.3 during the 2016 season and 12 Flyers earned Dean's List recognition.

The graduating class of 2016 has gone on to success in a variety of fields after UD, including: medical school, college coaching, Walt Disney Intern, professional accounting, and supply chain planning.

The Flyers were 7th in the nation with a 1.96 team ERA. Both Snyder and Cash were ranked nationally for ERA. Snyder was 10th with a 1.31 ERA and Cash was 16th with a 1.47 ERA.

In 2016, the Flyers were on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel for six home events, while also appearing on the American Sports Network three times. They were also recognized in front of a sold out Men's Basketball crowd for their 2015 season.
