Moments With The Mayor April 2021

Honor Thy Mother

Mother’s Day is coming up on Sunday, May 9, 2021, and I found it fitting that this month’s article should focus on honoring our mothers. As part of my preparation for this article, I asked some of our city employees to describe the person who filled the role of mom in their lives:

“She’s funny, energetic, hilarious; loves me for me.”
“She’s my best friend, spiritual, just an awesome woman.”
“She is always there for me.”
“She’s the most compassionate person I have ever seen.”
“My mother passed when I was just a baby. My grandmother filled that role and was my rock.”

A mother’s love is unconditional and knows no boundaries. She will always take care of her children and love them. She will defend them faithfully. She is strong, courageous, and bold. She is fierce. She is brave. She is beautiful. She is steadfast and sure. She is caring. She is graceful and elegant. She is hard working. She is wise.

Proverbs 31:31 directs us to “honor her for all that her hands have done and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.” Let us take time this year to honor the women in our lives who are either our mothers or who selflessly filled the role of a mother in our lives.

As for me, I adore my mother. She has been one of the greatest blessings in my life. My wife, a wonderful mother to our four boys, has also been a truly great partner and blessing in my life. I am so very grateful for the strong, Christian mother and wife that have made such a tremendous impact in my life.

I am also thankful for all of our Bolivar mothers who are supporting, teaching, and inspirational to the future generation of leaders in our great city and who are strong role models for our young men and women.

On behalf of the City of Bolivar, we hope all you moms have a great Mother’s Day. You deserve it. May you be happy, blessed, and showered with love and admiration on your very special day.
