Headteacher Comment

I was delighted to be presented with a plaque that shows our new partnership with Northampton Town Community Trust. You’ll see the picture further down the Newsletter. It is good to know that our work providing rich sporting and arts opportunities for children at Greenfields continues apace. I know that the children are very much enjoying all the after school clubs too, which will continue straight after half term.

This morning’s assembly was the prestigious Headteacher Award assembly and I was thrilled to be able to present the first of this year’s certificates.

Our school community also said ‘goodbye' and ‘good luck’ to four members of staff, all of whom are going on to exciting, ambitious roles: Miss Bayes is moving schools before commencing teacher training; Jay Grange is moving to another DRET school to become a teaching assistant; and Mrs Summers is moving to become a Pastoral Support member in a large secondary school. We wish them all the best in their new roles. Last, but by no means least, we said ‘farewell’ this week to Jacqui Passmore, who has played a major role in ensuring the school is safe and well-cared for, and that all the staff have everything we need. Jacqui started right at the beginning of our journey to ‘outstanding’ and she has been a huge support first to Mrs Gray, then to me and Mrs Tyrrell-Smith – we will miss her very much and thank her for her enormous contribution to Greenfields.

It has been a remarkable term and all parents and carers should be proud of the fantastic start that their children have made. We return to school on the 1st of November 2021 and I know the staff are really looking forward to the Christmas term. I wish you a relaxing two week break.

Have a lovely half term break

Shoebox Appeal

It was lovely to welcome Derek from Blysthwood Care who told the children all about the shoebox appeal that they can get involved with. Look out for leaflets coming home and posters around school which will give you lots more information. If you would like to fill and wrap up a shoebox please bring it into school by Tuesday 9th November and give it to your teacher. The shoeboxes will be collected by Derek and sent to lots of different people.

Short or tall?

In Champion Cheeatahs the children have been investigating whether taller people had longer arms. Through their investigation they discovered that in most cases this was true. However the class did find an anomaly in their results, as Logan, being taller than Jewel, actually had shorter arms - by 1 cm!

Science Day

Year One loved studying clouds this week! The children made their own clouds in a jar and compared them to the clouds outside. They decided that they had made Cirrus clouds.

Year One

History Day

Year 1 loved their History Day this week! We learnt all about Tutankhamun and the discovery of his tomb by Howard Carter. The children made their own Egyptian tablets using clay and they even got to go into a 'real' tomb and look at some awesome artifacts.

Year One

Autumn Colours

In the two year room the children have been exploring all things Autumn. They have been painting with root vegetables, exploring with senses in the orange and leaf water tray and talking about the change in the trees at this time of year. The nursery have also been learning to represent number names with objects as well as their fingers. Fantastic learning!

The children have also been exploring how to use water in different ways. Now that it is getting colder they have adapted their play to use syringes to. Making patterns on the floor is such great fun!

Football Partnerships

Greenfields are very excited to be able to work with Northampton Town Football Club this year! Mrs Appleby, Miss Bayes and the Sports Captains met with Damon from the community trust to receive our Partnership Plaque! The staff are looking forward to the exciting opportunities for our children!

Water Safety

Champion Cheetahs also had their last session at Thrapston pool this week. Their last session was somewhat different to their previous sessions. They spent the lesson learning what to do should they ever find themselves in water while out and about. They even learnt how to rescue someone using their clothing (Yes - they still had swimming costumes on!).

Champion Cheetahs

After assembly with some lovely visitors last week, the children in Year One had a lot of questions about Harvest Festival. They all did a fantastic job bringing in food for the food bank donations and the year group explored where food comes from during their independent learning time this week. They used the tractors to harvest all the crops in the farm tuff spot to make sure they all got to the shops on time for everyone to eat throughout the winter. Great job Year One!

Teachers are looking forward to posting their ‘Flipping Greenfields’ videos every Friday next term in time for the weekend. Each one is all about next week’s learning, so will get your child prepared for a flying start on Monday. Research shows that children who feel prepared for the coming week are less anxious about school, happier to get up and go on a Monday morning and achieve better than those who are not.
