Belmont Addition - About the Neighborhood
Belmont is a neighborhood in east Dallas, Texas. The neighborhood mainly consists of a collection of houses constructed in the 1910s and 1920s, in the Lower Greenville area. The houses are mainly Craftsman-style bungalows, Tudor and Prairie style homes.
In 2004, the Belmont Addition Conservation District was formed with the intent of preserving the unique character of the neighborhood. The area is in the heart of the Lower Greenville section of East Dallas.
The neighborhood is highly social with multiple neighborhood wide events each year designed to foster a friendly and neighborly atmosphere.
One resident writes: "I can’t imagine my life anywhere else. My closest friends live within a few blocks. My favorite bars and restaurants are in walking distance. There are no strangers here. Every year I walk the neighborhood, friends in tow, on St. Patrick’s Day, marveling at the hundreds of parties going on in the area. I meet dozens of new neighbors, and we share an unspoken bond. We all love our neighborhood. We welcome the newcomers and invite them for a drink. Friends are easy to find. And this isn’t just the nod-when-you-recognize-someone-at-the-gym kind of friend. These are friends who will feed your pets or rush you to the hospital in an emergency. These friends will mow your grass without being asked, just because they heard you were down with the flu."
Present-day Belmont Addition remains a mix of single and multi-family homes, and they exude a charm best understood by someone familiar with East Dallas. “Buying a home in Belmont Addition is buying a piece of Old East Dallas history.”
