The Mortal Instruments is a book series Cassandra Clare started writing in 2005. She worked very hard, and was first published in 2007. Since 2005 she has added six books to the series. Now Cassandra has more than just The Mortal Instruments series; Mrs. Clare has written two more series that have also become extremely popular. Ms. Clare's dedication lead her to being 2nd on the Children's Fiction List in 2014.

Cassandra Clare has probably accomplished many things but, I would think that one of those accomplishments is that she has 34 million copies of The Mortal Instruments out in the world. There was 2 million first printings of her last book, City of Heavenly Fire, that was published May 27, 2014. She has sold up to 6 million copies, just in the United States. She also strengthened her career and increased her selling profit by getting her books printed in foreign languages. Now her books are in thirty-six different languages, including English.

After City of Bones was written it immediately became a New York Times Bestseller. The Mortal Instruments has given Cassandra Clare the ability of being printed by a very popular publishing company, called Simon & Schuster. Thanks to that, in 2012 Mrs. Clare got to be a #1 bestseller. Not only did she get bestseller for one popular publishing company but for four. Those four publishing companies were New York Times, USA Today, Wall Street Journal, and Publisher's Weekly.

This series became so popular that they began making a movie inspired by the first book that was released in August of 2013. Many people were interested in the movie, its YouTube trailer got 3.4 million views by the time it came out. Ms. Clare approved of the cast and oversaw the auditions. "We'd love for it to turn into the kind of franchise that Twilight and Harry Potter are," said Gregory Ecónomos, senior v-p of global consumer products for Sony Pictures, which is a big movie making company. This movie had not only risen the amount of books sold, but it also brought up the seals in merchandise.

Before Ms. Clare published her last book The City of Heavenly Fire, she revealed the cover in January on a TV show, called The Insider. Social media had blown up with the cover and everyone was quickly spreading the news about it. The reveal had become very popular, so popular fact, that The S&S publishing company decided to get involved. So, on April 2nd they releases a Mortal Instruments day called "TMI Tuesday". This was like a count-down for the publishing date that slowly released more details about the book. It was very beneficial for the pre-orders of books each week.
