Middle & Senior School News
Year 10 Excursion to Taronga Zoo - Monday 11th February
As part of the Photography and Visual Arts Units, Year 10 students went on an excursion to Taronga Zoo and Manly Beach on Monday 11th February.
Students spent the morning at the Zoo taking photos of the animals and exhibits. A highlight of the morning was the seal show, where students learnt about the serious problem of overfishing with the help of Taronga Zoo’s resident seals. Students enjoyed the Sky Safari and seeing the animal exhibits from above.
In the afternoon students took the ferry to Manly and enjoyed the sunshine at Manly Beach. The Photography students took photographs inspired by Max Dupain, while the Visual Arts students took photos to use for their beach inspired artworks. It was a successful excursion, ending with a great trip back to Circular Quay on the Manly ferry. Thank you to the wonderful students who spent the day on the excursion.
Year 5 CARES Excursion - Monday 18th February
On Monday, the Year 5 Students had a wonderful time at the CARES (Community and Road Education Scheme) facility in St Ives. Students watched a number of videos which demonstrated the correct way to ride their bike on the road by highlighting the road rules. There was also a video which showed the importance of wearing a helmet. A practical component accompanied the videos so that Students could practise implementing the road rules. These skills involved signalling, weaving, giving way, and stopping. The afternoon was spent consolidating their skills on the ‘Mini Road’.
The 'Mini Road' was a highlight for the majority of students as they got to choose where to ride. They needed to make sure they were following the road rules, or they lost demerit points off their licence. The Senior Constables were very helpful at teaching Students the road rules and reminding them to stop and signal correctly. Their helmets were also checked to ensure they were safe and fitting properly. What a great day out!
Please see attached the term 1 menus. We are open for breakfast every morning from 8am.
We are also looking for volunteers this term. Mum’s, Dad’s and Grandparents are all welcome. Anything from 30 mins to a couple of hours any day of the week we would love to see you. No experience is needed, just the willingness to help, chop, pack bags and serve our lovely students. If you are interested or have any spare time please jump on to https://www.volunteersignup.org/RCYP3 or pop in and lend a hand.
