Knightly News 11/30/2018 Edition

Good Afternoon Smith Knight Families. As we are moving into December and winter is closing in, we are embracing the season by decorating the school with scenes of winter wonderland. Students and teachers are working together to spread some cheer and the competition is heating up. We will share more pictures as we close in on next Friday, our final day of preparations for door/hall decoration judging. Today, November 30th, is the last day of our Enchanted Book Fair and what a great success it has been. We hope to hear about all the great books our Knights are reading and enjoying. Big thanks to all our parents that took time out of their busy schedules to volunteer for our book fair. Also, big thanks to all of our parents that have signed up to sell concessions during our upcoming basketball games here at Smith.

Learning about saving lives in Mrs. O'Donnell's classes

We practiced hands only CPR today in Health class. We learned the importance of taking action to save a life!

Mrs. Khoury and Mrs. Cline's sixth grade social studies classes are connecting their learning to our world!

Sixth Graders have been learning about consumption and sustainable living in Social Studies. From the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, students have been tracking at home how they can have a positive impact on the world. https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/takeaction/

Smith Techno Knights Announcement

On Wednesday night 11/28 starting at 6:30 pm, our Smith Techno Knights had an open house to share their progress this year. You all did a FANTASTIC job yesterday and really represented your Team, FTC and Smith Middle School in a very positive light.

“Smitty” in action was a big hit. Everyone commented that it was so much fun watching “Smitty” move around the field. Showing the kids and parents what he could do and giving them a chance to have hands-on practice on the controllers and try to get “minerals” into the lander was appreciated by the attendees.

Everyone that came (we had over 30 attendees in total) had nothing but good things to say and share about your presentation and the breakout sessions at each table where you each taught in smaller groups. They enjoyed learning how to program using blocks programming and understanding Tele-Op vs. Autonomous, learning about the mechanical design and prototyping process for “Smitty” and learning how they too can get involved with FTC and what the progression is from FLL to FTC as part of First Inspires process.
