Lower School Library/Design Lab Newsletter September 2017

Pre-Kindergarten's First Day in the Library!

In their very first library class, the students listened to Do Not Bring Your Dragon to the Library by Julie Gassman and browsed books about schools, libraries, and letters in the alphabet.

Turning Mistakes into Opportunities

Lower School students were read The Book of Mistakes by Corinna Luyken.

They each received a page with a "mistake."

The students were instructed to turn the mistake into an opportunity by creating characters or places from the "blobs" on the paper.

The students used markers rather than pencils so that they could not erase any potential "mistakes" and instead turn those into opportunities as well.

Fun and Fancy Insects

Third Graders created fantasy insects in the Design Lab as a part of their insect curriculum unit. Each insect needed to have scientifically correct body parts, such as antennae and a thorax.

Learning About Laptops

Fourth and Fifth Graders learned the basics of using laptops through a Laptop Scavenger Hunt created by the Lower School Librarian. Students were guided through finding internet browsers, creating and saving documents, and organizing files into folders on the desktop.
