This week we have done all we can make these unusual times as festive as we can for your children. And, without a doubt, Greenfields has pulled it off again.
Our Santa Run raised an incredible £960 for the Inspiration Fund. Thank you to the office staff for helping parents to make their donations, sorting the Santa medals, hats and suits so that everyone could have so much fun. Your generous donations to the Kettering Foodbank were most gratefully received and 'thank you' to Mrs Green for organising this kind gesture. And, to top this all off we shared our Christmas Nativity film and KS1&2 Singing Extravaganza. I do hope you have all enjoyed watching the films via Tapestry and Google Classroom (see links at the bottom of the newsletter. They certainly gave me a warm feeling of Christmas, 'well done' to everyone involved. But, a huge 'well done and thank you' must go to our resident film maker, Miss Byrne, who edited, green-screened and otherwise made fabulous both of the films.
I look forward to welcoming you all back to school on Tuesday 5th January.
Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and please, stay safe.
Our Wonderful Staff!
Our amazing staff have been making our school as Christmassy as possible. The corridors were dressed with wonderful decorations and the Christmas extravaganza continued. The amazing Rachael and Lizzie, who rarely get a mention and work tirelessly behind the scenes all year round, delivered food hampers and slow cookers to 12 of our families who have been very grateful for the gift.
Santa Run Fun!
On Wednesday, the children took part in the Santa Run. They had lots of fun and the amazing Greenfields Santas raised £956 for the Inspiration Fund. Thank you for your support of this annual event.
Remarkable Rhinos Get Festive
Well done to Remarkable Rhinos for getting into the spirit of Christmas. Here are just some of the many highlights from our week…..
Miss Kenny’s highlight has to be the DRET Carol Concert, the children sang so beautifully and really brought the festive cheer.
Cheetahs Purr-fect Their Work
Champion Cheetahs have been putting the finishing touches to their version of Sandros Botticelli’s ‘Mystic Nativity’. Not only did they enjoy doing the artwork, they also learnt about, why he included the figures he did.....can you spot the demons?
Greenfields is a Bully-Free Zone
During their Jigsaw lesson this week, Marvellous Meerkats have spent some time exploring what bullying is and what it means to be a witness to bullying. Following some quality discussions that took place during their circle time, they put their creative skills to the test by making an anti-bullying hand chain, where they noted down some top tips for preventing bullying and continuing to keep our classroom (and playground) a bullying-free zone.
Marvellous Writers in Meerkats
This week, Marvellous Meerkats have spent the week finishing off their ‘Mr Big’ topic for English. During this unit, they have been learning all about a transformational tale text type, where the main character is different at the start compared to the end of the story. More specifically, the children have focused on a number of writers’ tools, such as speech marks, sentences of three, adverbial phrases, adjectives and fronted adverbials, which they have tried to incorporate into their hot write. Mr Leach was so pleased with the hard work, determination and effort that the children have demonstrated throughout this unit. Please take a few moments to look at some great examples of the children’s writing below.
Greenfields Fills Up The Foodbank
'Thank you' to everyone who donated to our Foodbank appeal. The response was amazing and the mini bus was full to the brim! Some children from Year Two donated the items to the Kettering Foodbank on Thursday lunchtime and they were so grateful for all the food and toiletries. Your kindness will help others have a very merry Christmas - thank you for your generosity!
Reception Save The Nativity
Reception have been working hard on their virtual nativity performance instead of performing to a live audience. Parents, you can find this link on Tapestry to watch the performance. The children have done such an amazing job. Well done!
Nursery Have Festive Fun
The 2yr olds have enjoyed getting into the Christmas spirit this week. They made snow globes for the tree, wrapped themselves as presents, enjoyed the Santa run and watched the pantomime together with milk and cookies.
Soaring Eagles get creative
Soaring Eagles had a wonderful final day, with lots of Christmas activities and goodies.
Like the rest of the school, Soaring Eagles really enjoyed watching PantoLive.
September 2021 Reception Intake
If you have a child turning 4 years old between 1 September 2020 and 31 August 2021, you need to apply for their place to start in Reception in September 2021.
Greenfields Primary School and Nursery is now rated as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted, and as with all outstanding schools the popularity of the school increases. With this in mind, we are expecting to be oversubscribed in our admissions for a place in our Reception class in September 2021. This means that we will not have enough places for the number of children applying and some families will be disappointed and not be allocated Greenfields. More information on admissions can be found on our website
The application process is now available on the Northamptonshire County Council website: click on the button below to apply for place at Greenfields. The closing date is Thursday 17:00hrs 15th January 2021.
If your child is currently attending our nursery and is due to start in our Reception next year, then we do not want you to be disappointed and miss out on a place. You must submit an application before the closing date as places are NOT automatically allocated.
Should you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact our school office.
Google Classroom is where you will find Greenfields' amazing virtual classrooms full of chat and lots of hard work! If you have not used Google Classroom before, or you are new to Greenfields, please follow this link that explains how to log on to a PC, Android or Apple device. You will need your child’s email address and password, and the class codes below:
Class Code and Google Link
Teachers are looking forward to posting their ‘Flipping Greenfields’ videos this Friday in time for the weekend. Each one is all about next week’s learning, so will get your child prepared for a flying start on Monday. Research shows that children who feel prepared for the coming week are less anxious about school, happier to get up and go on a Monday morning and achieve better than those who are not.
