Revolutions in Technology Michelle Rosvold

Past: The Industrial Revolution

Technological Revolution

Britain was Wealthy

During the 1800s, when the industrial revolution was going on, Britain was very wealthy so they had a lot of money to invest into new inventions.

Population Boom

At this time in Britain's history, the population was booming. This meant more people to feed which meant production had to higher, so new farming technology was made to support the growing population.

Coal Power

The discovery of coal power and the use of coal power to make new and improved iron made the technological innovations easier to carry out.

Technological Advancements

Crop Rotation

The increase in population resulted in a higher demand for food. Crop rotation was invented to provide for the growing population. Crop rotation allowed the fields to stay fertile because the different crops would use different nutrients from the soil.

As production of goods increased so did trade. Canals were created to make an easier, more efficient way of moving goods from place to place.

Railways also helped improve the efficiency of trade.

Machines for Weaving

Demand for clothing and textiles for personal use or for trade increased greatly during the industrial revolution. In order to have higher production rates, machines such as the flying shuttle, spinning Jenny, and water frame were created.

Impacts on Society

The industrial revolution caused an abundance in available jobs.

The factories and machines built to make products caused production rates to sky rocket.

Better farming tools made for a better harvest, meaning a surplus of food.

Factories were the main way of production which meant there was a lot of dangerous manual labor.

Factories hired everyone, including children and women, this took the women away from caring for their families.

The chemicals that the machines let off polluted the air and was hard for the workers to breathe in.

"Only since the Industrial Revolution have most people worked in places away from their homes or been left to raise small children without the help of multiple adults, making for an unsupported life" - Martha Beck

Present: The Digital Revolution

Technological Revolution

Rivalry Between Countries

The United States wanted to get ahead in the technology game. Countries like Russia and China were competing with United States, the Digital Revolution gave the US a head start.

Wealth in the United States

In the United States, there are many wealthy people with money to spare. A lot of these people helped fund the innovations of the Digital Revolution.

Medical Advancements

A big cause for the recent digital advancements has been the need for improved medical equipment. The new tehcnology has made many feats in the medical field easier to accomplish.

Technological Advancements

In 1981, the first PC was invented. This device made information via the internet (1969) much more accessible.

Smart Phones

2007 was when the first Apple iPhone was debuted. This product made acces to the internet accessible anytime, anywhere.

Social Media

Social media was created to make communication easier. Instead of sharing current happenings in your life individually with many people, social media allows you to share with everyone at once.

Impacts on Society

The Digital Revolution has made it much easier to communicate. This benefits people's safety, reliability and accessibility.

Simple tasks, such as shopping, research and making payments are now able to be completed through your phone, making them much easier.

These big and quick changes are giving entrepreneurs many new oppurtunites to create products that will be successful in today's new age.

This generation, having always grown up with all the new technology, is having a hard time seeing the difference between the real world and the virtual world.

The standard of the generally accepted morals and ethical codes have been significantly lowered in the Digital Revolution.

The amount of face to face communication has gone down, causing the social skills of the new generation to go down as well.

"The Internet is so big, so powerful and pointless that for some people it is a complete substitute for life." - Andrew Brown

Future Revolution

Technological Revolution

Unknown Universe

Human kind's curiosity of the unknown universe will lead to funding for new explorations.

Privacy Improvements

With all of the new technology, hacking and identity theft is made much easier. In order to prevent this, new forms of privacy protection will be created.

Improved Transportation

As humans, we have the natural tendency to want more than we have. Something we desire is easier and faster travel. We will eventually create new ways of transportation.

Technological Advancements

In order to provide future generations with the ability to explore other planets, new and improved space gear will be invented. Things like better space ships, more reliable suits, and space stations on other planets.

Improved Computer Security

To increase security, computers are being tested to use the brain's reactions to acronyms as a password. People's brains don't react the same way, this is why the computers are able to use this strategy as a password.

Teleportation will speed up transportation by a huge margin. There will have to be a lot of science and experimenting behind teleportation, but being able to go from one place to another that quick would be very useful.

Impacts on Society

With the new space technology, we will have a better understanding of the world.

With the new type of password, security is much higher and your information will be better protected.

If teleportation became a prominent way of transportation there would be no pollution from gas.

Robots will take over jobs and there will be more unemployment.

With electronic beings running systems, there is a chance of bigger glitches in the system.

Human kind will be too dependent on robots and electronics, so they will not know how to function with out them.
